Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Hi everyone!

I applied for the spring 2013. This is my second time to apply because my gpa was not competive enough for the fall. My gpa is 3.38 and was told by a councilor that it was competive enough for the spring and encouraged me to reapply. I have been asked by several friends and family members what I will do if I don't get accepted this time around. My answer is no clue. I am 34 with 2 small kids and am currently enrolled at hcc and will be wrapping up my credits to get my general AA while I'm waiting to get my acceptance letter. I honestly haven't thought beyond it b/c RN is really the only avenue I want to venture at this point. Try another school maybe? Thoughts and comments are appreciated!

Hiya kinacrzy. I know it is scary, right? Aggghhhhh. What campus are you attending right now? I am wrapping up my last few AA classes too.

My bday is this week, this would be the BEST Bday Present EVER!!!!!!:w00t:

It's VERY good that you are trying to finish up your AA degree too. HCC gives preference to

those who have more credit hours. Also, once you get your ASN, it is highly recommended to get a BSN as soon as possible. Hospitals that are magnet status (like Tampa General or St. Joe's) will not even hire a new grad without a BSN. You are doing things smart by applying to HCC. They put out excellent nurses, and it's a cheaper (more economical) way to obtain your nursing degree. Again, I would highly recommend any nursing student on the Associate Degree level to look into furthering their education as soon as they can.

"NURSING:

Admission criteria:

A complete application with all transcripts and documents submitted by the deadline

  • HCCs Nursing program is highly competitive. GPA in prerequisite courses is the basis of admissions; the class admitted for Fall 2012 had a minimum prerequisite GPA over 3.5.

  • Overall GPA only to break a tie

  • A clean background check

  • A negative drug screening

  • We do not consider other academic degrees or references.

  • There is no waiting list. "

If there is a tie for prerequisite GPA, then they look at overall GPA. If there is a tie for overall GPA also, then they look at the number of credits earned. The one with the most credits will get the space. I read somewhere that this is the only time they look at number of credits.

Either way, we will find out very soon. With any luck, it will be next week!

Awesome! I have approximately 228 undergrad credits over the course of my entire undergrad career. Glad to see all that school might pay off!

The advisor told me that they won't update that information until we are accepted into the program. :( But as long as they have all the information, who cares!

That would be awesome. I have my AA from HCC what feels like many moons ago! lol

Wow! That is alot of credits! Hope to see you in class in January! :)

Indeed. My breakdown of credits based on the degrees I have goes something like this:

-A.A., 2001 (62)

-B.A., 2003 (66)

-A.S. #1, 2008 (53)

-A.S. #2, 2011 (14)

-A.S. #3, Dec. 2012 (9)

-HCC Nursing prereqs, Summer 2011-Spring 2012 (15; ENC1101 and SYG2000 were originally part of my A.A.)

-Additional Prereqs for various BSN programs which I've also taken, Summer 2011-Spring 2012 (16)

Total: approx 228 but I could be off somewhere.

Got the 228 number from the current school I have which has every undergrad transcript I've ever had in their possession.

As for class in January, I'll be applying for Night, not Day, but appreciate the sentiment. :D

The waiting in killing me.........I think it is harder now that we only have a few days. How does everyone else feel?
