Hillsborough Community College Fall 2017

Published

Is anyone else planning on applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program? I know it is really early, but I am just too excited. I want other people to share my excitement with!! :)

I can fully understand the stress of finding a home and what not... It's not fun at all.

But hey, we passed so one less thing to worry about. :)

I actually just drove to check out the southshore campus on Monday and it's a lot closer than I thought it was going to be. Like you I've been thinking about applying for all three (plant city, dale mabry, and southshore) because they are all 20-25 minutes away. I'm not sure what order I'll choose though. I'm hoping for mornings.

What area are you looking to move to?

Hey y'all. My name is Chris and I am also applying for the fall 2017. I'm nervous now after reading halls posts because your GPA is so high. I got a C and the rest are B's for the pre-reqs. My preq. Is a 3.0. I'm taking the Teas next month. My backup plan is the Polk state nursing program and I am also going to apply for LPN programs. Good luck to everyone and I hope we all get in.

Yeah GPA's are a big deal . applying to LPN programs is your best shot . I have a 3.42 and I'm so nervous I'll get declined again .

Strange, I didn't receive a notification that there was activity on this thread. Congratulations on passing everyone! :)

We found a house!! We are under contract :) we are going to be in riverview !

That's awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Hi! I'm also applying for Fall but nervous about my gpa so I'm applying to other schools as well. I wish HCC had a system like Polk State, gives us who got a C in one or two subjects a chance, lol. Best of luck to everyone though!!!

Hi kellbell!

How does it work at PSC? Is it first come first serve? I'm really curious.

------

Also, I don't know what made me think of this but... does anyone know if all HCC cohorts go to all clinical sites or if the locations are divided up for clinically? The HCC website has 9 clinical locations.

Example:

Class is in plant city so clinical is Lakeland regional due to proximity (not Tampa General).

I'm just curious how it works.

Polk State college does a points system where they take your (pre-req gpa) x 5 + (overall gpa) x 5 + Teas score= your points and they add a few extra if you have any AA or bachelors degrees.

Also- I've been looking and can't find a thread for PSC fall 2017 so if any of you have a link to it I would appreciate it!! :)

My last program was on a points system. You had so many points from each individual pre-req class (A got you 6 pts; C got you 2) and then most of your points were from the ACT. It helped those who had C's in the pre-req classes. Like my study partner had C's in both anatomy and micro, but her ACT gave her enough points to be accepted. On the other hand, it sucked for those who did well in those classes but struggled on the content of the ACT because he or she didn't have geometry or trig in over 10 years. I guess there is no perfect system..

Every semester and every year is different. This spring semester supposedly had a very high admission stats but the semester before was seemed very low. It is really hard to tell, so don't give up hope. LPN is also another great route and you can do the LPB-RN bridge and that is completely fine. My last school had the top LPN program in the state :)

I agree with you ^ we don't know what to expect for cutoff GPAs for this fall . its always changing hopefully we get in .

Hello!

So I'm planning to apply for the Spring '18 program, and I'm super nervous. I started taking college courses in 2000 (wow, that sounds like a lifetime ago!), and got lazy and withdrew from English THREE times! I was young and unmotivated, and quite frankly hated writing essays. All that to say, it looks like that will cost me .6 on my pre-req GPA  I'm taking Micro, AP1, and English Comp 1 right now, with "A"s in all of them. I plan to get straight "A"s on the rest as well. Still, my best case scenario is a 3.4. Just remember y'all, those dumb decisions made when you're younger will follow you around!!

BUT - I know this doesn't bode well for acceptance into the program. I know that other options have been discussed here (like PSC or PHCC), however, I have a full-time job, and a family, so I really need a night/weekend program like HCC offers, and it needs to be as local as possible.

Does anyone have any insight onto how they accept per program (location/days/nights, etc)? If I need to go the LPN route, I could do that I guess, but my goal is to get my ADN while doing concurrent BSN coursework, and go from there.

Thanks in advance for any advice/insight you can throw my way. And GOOD LUCK to all of you applying for the Fall '17 program!!
