Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Has anyone heard on alternate or appeals yet??? I feel like everyone has dropped off of here after hearing if they got in and I am now wondering what to do next? I have done my background check, but what is everyone else that knows they got in done? Have you got books, and if so what? What are your next steps?

Well, you turn in the 35.00 with your acceptance letter, do your background check and report to orientation on the 21st. You could possible do your fafsa and your CPR course if you want but cannot register until after orientation. Just checked with the bookstore and they said that the new list of books is not out yet and to wait. Also they said the patch for the uniforms are changing too but not sure if it will be this next semester or not. Per what I understand, go back over your A&P and start trying to understand dosage calculationing. Good luck.

Hey Kikilynn.... This was the response I received about being an alternate and the appeals process.... The first email they sent was incorrect, so this email cleared up when the alternate's letters will be mailed out. This was sent to me on April 25.

Good morning Ms. E,

I apologize for the confusion, letters been mailed out to alternates who have been accepted for the Nursing LPN program. The Health Sciences Committee will be meeting later this week to review all the application appeals and finalize the acceptance list for alternates. Alternates that are accepted into the Nursing Basic Program will be notified via mail by mid-May.

I've already turned in my application for the LPN program at MTI and they've approved all of my paperwork. It's definitely not as competitive and the head of the nursing department, who I met with, said I wouldn't have a problem getting in. Now, if I receive a letter of acceptance from HCC, then I'll have a big decision to make. What to do, what to do? Stay close to home or commute everyday. Ugh.

My vote would be to stay closer to home!!!

Follow your heart Eyoung, i would not drive these days, if i don't have to, especially, the average price of a gallon is $3.95

I am freaking out a little. I haven't heard anything from the school since I turned in my acceptance letter except that email about the orientation date change. I hope that email means they did in fact receive my acceptance. Webadvisor still lists me as an applicant. I hope to receive the campus assignments soon. Not that I am overly anxious about the assignment, I am just looking for some type of confirmation that my acceptance letter was received!

I completed my BLS course on Saturday and was wondering if anyone knew what we did after that ? i.e. do we scan the AHA card and e-mail it to the nursing program?

Also, something that may make you folks have a little hope - one of the guys in the BLS course just graduated from HCC and is getting job interviews. He said he was interviewing at TGH this week and feels like he has a great chance. So looks like there are some jobs out there in acute care for newbies.

Sounds good!! I think we are supposed to have a photocopy of the card and bring it in to orientation. I'm hoping to snag a position at a Nursing home or hospital between now and the start of the nursing program. I got my CNA license May 3 so we'll see. I also registered for Medical terminology this fall as I have to rely on Fin Aid heavily while I'm in Tampa (need a full time schedule) anyhow looking forward to seeing you all at Orientation! I went out to the school my first week in Tampa (last week lol) and I didn't know where ANYTHING was!!!

Update for the alternates:

I received this email on Tuesday, May 10...

Good morning Ms. E,

The acceptance letters for Nursing Basic alternates have not been mailed out yet. Alternates that are accepted will receive a letter in the mail in 1-2 weeks.

Thank you for your interest in HCC’s Nursing program.

I'm assuming this might be when those of you who were accepted will be receiving your school assignments?? I looked at last fall's forum and it looks like appeal results, alternate letters and school assignments were mailed out at the same time.

Shamanie, I'm going to take a crash course to challenge the CNA test, plus I'm going to order some study guides from Amazon. Do you have any advice for me? Was it difficult? What areas should I focus my studies on? How long did it take to finish the exam? Any information you have on the CNA test would be greatly appreciated! I've decided that I'm going to work part time as a CNA while in nursing school.

the exam is pretty straight forward. I id my training course in Dania beach. it was a 2 weekend crash course. They teach you all of the skills and you get to practice them. In the end we were gien an additional 3 hour session for review outside of the class (optional review) either a day or two before the state nurse comes in to test us. The test consists of 4 skills (hand washing is an unprompted skill that you perform twice in the first skill) and the the other 3 are random skills that won't know until you get in there. The written portion isn't bad. there was a link to a practice CNA exam on the forum if i find it i will post it for you because that definitely helped me out. I'm just waiting on call backs for the places I've applied to....(I'm new in Tampa) is the school open today?I thought they'd be closed until Mon May 16.

Thank you for that info! I don't know if the school is open or not. I have only taken two classes at HCC, one being online an sociology class. I live in Bradenton, so it's much easier just to take classes at SCF. Thankfully, I'm finished with prerequisites for both HCC and SCF, so I the next classes I'l take will be at MTI or one of the other two schools if I'm accepted.

The CNA crash course I'm taking is also a two weekend course and is in Sarasota. I'm SO happy to hear that you passed the test with just a crash course. I was a little apprehensive about it, but now I'm more comfortable. :)

I got my campus assignment letter today. I am confused because it is basically the same as the original acceptance letter except it has the campus assignment on it. This letter also requests the $35 fee for the drug test to be sent along with the seat acceptance. Didn't we pay the $35 when we sent in our original acceptance?
