Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Thanks GC2CRNA. I'm going to call UCH and see if I can get the BLS there since it's so close to me, if not I'll just sign up at HCC in ybor. I'd like to get it out of the way in April if possible.

startingoveragain,

I have a previous degree with a low overall gpa. 2 something I think. (It took me a while to get my act together) However, my prerequisite GPA is pretty high. Depending on which math class was used, I either have all A's or all A's and one B. with a 3.8 prereq gpa you should be accepted. I don't trust the people at the desk either. You should read the handbook (available online).

i did... however, it is wordy... i emailed the program manager but she has yet to respond.

I posted this a while ago...Hope it helps.

This is cut and pasted from the Health Sciences Admissions Handbook (pages 17 and 18) regarding how students are ordered for acceptance priority. I hope this helps clear up any confusion.

Ranking by grade point average: Applicants are ranked by grade point average, which

is calculated using the grades of the prerequisite courses required for admission to a

particular Health Sciences Program. The calculation will include prerequisite grades earned

from other institutions. If an applicant has completed a required course with a Pass/Fail

grade, then there will be no grade used for that course in the calculation; however, the

applicant will have satisfied the requirement.

Selections are made based on the highest grade point averages (GPA) and the number of

seats available in each individual program. In the event there are fewer seats remaining

than the number of applicants with identical GPAs, the following criteria are used to

determine program admittance:

1. Applicants with the highest college cumulative grade point average in all courses

taken excluding preparatory course work.

2. If students have identical college cumulative GPAs, then preference will be given

to the student who has earned more total college credits.

3. Applicants for admissions consideration into the Paramedic Program will have their

GPA calculations made from the grades earned in the EMT-B coursework. If there

are no grades available for the EMT-B coursework, selection will be made based

upon the GPA of other college level courses taken which must equal or exceed six

(6) credits.

If the program does not require prerequisite courses, applicants will be ranked based on

their overall grade point average excluding preparatory course work. Selections will be

18

made based on the highest overall grade point averages and the number of seats available

in each individual program. If two or more students have identical college cumulative GPAs,

then preference will be given to the student who has earned more total college credits.

Alternates are designated for each program in the event students that are selected decline.

Alternates are determined in the same manner as selects to the program.

If an applicant uses a CLEP score for one or more prerequisite course, the GPA will be

calculated on the actual grades earned in classes, and total college credits will be

calculated on actual college classes. An original copy must be attached to the application.

However, the applicant will be given credit for satisfying the prerequisite.

Repeating/withdrawing from prerequisite courses: Applicants may have 2 attempts

per prerequisite course taken after 1997 on their academic record without being penalized.

After two attempts, penalties are as follows:

* Minus .2 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 3rd time

* Minus .6 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 4th time

* Minus 1.2 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 5th time

* Minus 2.4 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 6th time

Withdrawals, academic withdrawals and other non-calculated gradesare

considered attempts:

The State of Florida statute prohibits HCC from allowing a student to retake a course when

the student has taken the course previously and received a "C" or higher grade. In

addition, HCC will transfer in a course from another institution, but if the student has taken

that course before and received a grade of "C" or higher, the more recent grade will not be

used in any grade point calculation. (Specific Authority 1001.02(1) FS; Law Implemented

1001.02(9) FS. History - New 8-13-96, Amended 8-17-98, 1-23-00, and 7-20-04. Through

the Florida Department of Education, Community Colleges; Withdrawal and Forgiveness

Rule 6A-14.0301)

Well it looks I won't be joining you guys at PC this fall after all. Not only did I miss the deadline to confirm my seat (MG confirmed that the date was April 1 after all--extended to April 4 due to the school being closed), but my job isn't deploying any work at homes until later this year. So while I wait one more semester, I can bond with the new baby and put in a little extra prep time, not to mention keep an eye on this board for helpful hints from you guys. Good luck to you all this August! :)

I just received this email a little earlier today

Congratulations on your admission into the Nursing Program at Hillsborough Community College for the Fall 2011!

By now you should have received your acceptance letter indicating when orientation for newly accepted students would be. Due to a scheduling conflict, the date of the orientation has been changed. Orientation is scheduled as follows:

Date: Tuesday, June 21 & Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Time: 8:30am to 4:00pm (both days)

Location: Student Services Building Auditorium

Hi guys, when is the deadline to submit background chk and immunization?

Hi guys, when is the deadline to submit background chk and immunization?

In our acceptance letters it reads to "complete the background check by no later than May." As far as the physical examination, we will find that out at orientation. Proof of current CPR certification is required by the first day of class. On prior post, it suggests to wait til the last minute to get the CPR certification since the certification only last for 2 years.

Thanks tthorton . I hope u guys ready for that roller coaster :-)

Specializes in Addiction, psych.

Maybe ya'll can help me...I'm starting the transition in May. On my acceptance letter, the date listed for orientation says "Newly accepted Radiation Therapy Program students must attend orientation April 21, 8:30-4:00." I know some of you were saying your orientation dates were wrong on your letters as well, who did you email or talk to to get the correct info? I have NO clue and I'm getting anxious that I'll miss my date. Thanks!

I would talk to MG, she is the Assistant Dean of Student Services. She is who emailed us with the corrected dates. Good Luck!

I got accepted into the fall for DM with a 3.85GPA

Hey is anyone going to PHCC as an alternate option ??? Im really thinking of going there since I was denied to HCC...
