Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

I should be starting at the Plant City Campus in the Fall for the Night and Weekend Program. How about you? By the way, what's the name of the book?

I hope to be at Dale Mabry. They haven't told me what school I'm going to be at yet. I'm going to do afternoons and weekday clinicals.

Is anyone attending PC campus day program? I think I have only seen one other than myself.

I am hoping to attend Dale Mabry day program.

Thanks for the reply on books all. Glad the majority are being used for all two years. One more question - I am planning on doing the clinicals on Saturdays. Anyone know the start and finish times and what hospitals ? Thanks !

Hi everyone,

I'm new to your discussion. I was also accepted to the program, and planning to attend Dale Mabry campus day time classes.

Did anyone mail the seat confirmation letter to HCC? I left mine in the drop box last Thursday, but it was after 5pm and nobody was at the office. Is there any way to check if they got the letter? I e-mailed MF several times, but she did not reply, and, I guess, they will be closed for the next week

I dropped my acceptance letter off last Friday. I didn't feel safe sending it through the mail. I didn't include a SASE in my envelope so all I can do is HOPE they wouldn't misplace it! I would hope our status would change on Hawknet.

If you sent the acceptance letter with a check then just see if your check got cashed in the next few weeks to make sure if they accepted the letter. That's how I found out if they accepted my application.

Im an NP1 student finishing my 1st semester at DM campus... I bought the book package from the bookstore and in my opinion it was a waste of money - the only books I used all semester so far (3 weeks left) are perry potter (did NOT pick up the study guide for perry potter or the clinical companion that come with the book box) the lewis meg-surge book (havent looked at the study guide or clinical companion book once) and the nursing calc book. THATS IT...!!! the e-books are useful if youre on your computer 24/7 and you wanna read thousands of pages on your computer, but we didnt use them for any class application AT ALL... so for anyone wanting to save some cash I recommend perry potter, lewis medsurge book, and clinical calculations book... two books you must have are fundamentals of success (thats an nclex style questing book that has nclex questions set up in the same format as the perry potter book) and medsurge success (same concept just a bunch of nclex questions specifically relating to the info you cover in class)...

Im passing the class with a good grade just using these books. the best advice i can give is read the first 8 chapters of nursing calculations book and chapter 35 in the perry potter book (medical administration) once if not twice before class starts - the first test is medcalc test and it is HEAVILY WEIGHTED so a good grade on that will help ALOT later in the semester. Also just get used to reading ALOT, Everyone will try to scare you saying how hard it all is but its not so much hard as it is just ALOT OF READING AND BEING BUSY 24/7... nobody is used to reading 6 chapters of a textbook a week but its totally possible. Again as you can see by my spelling and grammer you dont have to be a rocket science to do this JUST BE MOTIVATED and anyone can do it... If i can help anyone with specific question for dale mabry np1 let me know

I picked up a book from Barnes and Noble the other day called "Math for Nurses" by Kaplan. I am hoping it is similiar to the one by Kee and Marshall. I just wanted to get a little jumpstart and I couldn't beat the $15 price tag! I would consider myself good at math but not so good at remembering convertions (i.e. mg to grams). I think I will take everyones advice and NOT buy the package.

MMMurse: How are the instructors at the Dale Mabry campus? Thanks for the book info! Saving money to eat is important right now. I'm living on bare minimum to pay for nursing school.

Thanks for reply, willbehgb & cloneswife. I hope, they won't lose it!

MMMurse, Thank you for the information!
