Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

GC2CRNA: I'm looking for the ISBN for the NP1. I'm not sure if it's going to be a new addition or not yet. When are you starting and what campus do you want to be on?

I should be starting at the Plant City Campus in the Fall for the Night and Weekend Program. How about you? By the way, what's the name of the book?

Nice, look at you, you got friends in high places. LOL! Thanks for passin' it on.

I was going to appeal with my 3.57, but it sounds like 3.57 was a popular GPA and the cut off. :( Oh well. I did ask MG how many alternates they chose and she didn't answer. She simply said that after the appeal process is complete, they will then fill the 145 seats and the alternate status will change to "admitted." She also included that she cannot guarantee that the "alternate" status will change. Ugh.

So we now know of four of us who have a 3.57 status who are alternates... How do they put in order alternates who have the same GPA?

From my understanding those with the same GPA they look at your cumulative GPA and if that's the same, they go to who has the most college credits.

Congratulations mrsgood!!!

@Mrsgood CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

You can pull the syllabus for all 4 semesters on the HCC website!!! I was able to snag a copy of Potter Perry from my cousin who did the ADN program at another school. Its the EXACT same book! Saved a little money i guess. I want to pick up some NCLEX reviews from Border's... thanx for the tip! Also the 1st reading assignment was posted on the Fall 2011 thread if i'm not mistaken. That's what I'll be reading up on. It's basically handwashing, bedpan, clothing, bathing etc. Now the countdown to June... then eventually Aug. Look forward to seeing you ALL (alternates included ((you're so in))) at orientation.

ps... It seems that A LOT of students applied this year to HCC. I think HCC is pretty popular on Allnurses

I have a question about the books. Do we use the majority of those books listed in the syllabus throughout the whole program or are there a lot more to buy each semester ? Seems like there's gonna be a ton of books to buy...???

BTW, I'm planning on going to PC Campus on nights and weekends...

Morpheus111,

I haven't checked yet, but you can review the syllabi for each of the current nursing courses at:

Hopefully, we'll be able to get a lot of mileage out of the first semester books.

My friend who is in the program says that the books are about $500-$700 and they are suppose to last for all 4 semesters. HCC bookstore has them all in a (shrinkwrap) pack or you can buy them separately. But there are some books that you have to buy new because you have worksheets to turn in from them. They won't let you photocopy the worksheets and turn the photocopies in, copywright laws prohibit that. The problem is the Nurse Process book has a new 8th edition and I don't know if we have to buy the new 8th or keep using the 7th. I'm sure we'll find out by orientation.
