Hillsborough Community College Fall 2010

Published

hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).

who else?! :)

edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.

We were already warned that we better know our drugs so I am working on that right now. Also, I am really working on fluids and electrolytes b/c I didn't do so great on that test. How about you?

Lol, see my posts above re Fluids and Electrolytes. I plan on reviewing that as well as cardiac and respiratory system. I've begun to review my skills on the dvd so I don't forget some of my skills for clinicals.

They did not warn us about drugs. What exactly did they say about drugs? what kind? etc

I also need to go over lab values etc

We were told that we would need to know our meds w/out looking at drug cards. Also, we needed to know the main beta blockers, anti-deppressants, anti-hypertensives, anti-psychotics, and insulins b/c everyone is on them. I feel pretty good about lab values but I see them frequently at work so that's probably why

NewGoal and Keen, I typically get off at about 5 but I will arrange to leave at 4 on the days that I have class at 5 :).

Tebyrd -

You should be fine. I live in Lutz & class was @ 1 so I always left @ 12 and was usually there by 12:30. PC campus is right off I-4 anyways so that makes it easier.

Awesome! Thanks Keen :). Was it difficult to get to your clinical site?

Hello Everyone! This site is so helpful. I love it. So much positivity. Anyway, I took my CPR for healthcare professionals with the Red Cross. Does anyone know if that is alright? Or do I have to take the course with the AHA?

I don't think it matters who you take CPR with as long as it is for healthcare providers and it is not from an online course. AHA is just who HCC suggest as a preferred organization.

Awesome! Thanks Keen :). Was it difficult to get to your clinical site?

Not at all. I was at South Florida Baptist. I don't know about Lakeland Regional though.

So is everyone excited about orientation tomorrow?? I am ! How are we going to identify each other?

Hey there, everyone!

Yes, Tebyrd...I am SO looking forward to orientation! Can't wait to meet all of you! If I can't get this tanning GUNK to come off of me, I will be easily identifiable....LOL! Do you want to meet outside the auditorium doors, a little early, perhaps?? Just an idea...

I just signed up for the CPR class at the YBOR campus on Thurs. July 1st (9:30am-1:30pm), so I am glad to have that on my schedule! If anyone will be joining me, let me know!

I am SO VERY thankful for all of the AWESOME information and support that has been provided on this forum!! Thank you guys SO MUCH!!!

AND...now that my life has calmed down a bit, I will be here at least once a day!! IT's GREAT to be back!! :yeah:

Take care, and hope to see you soon!! :)

Hey Nick,'

Welcome back, lol! Outside of the auditorium sounds good to me...although I seem to have misplaced my paperwork (go figure) what time are we supposed to report? 8AM right? I don't even know where the auditorium is...why do I lead such a frazzled existance *sigh*.

It starts at 8:30am and goes until 4pm (but I've heard it ends a little early).

Dale Mabry Campus, Student Services Building, Auditorium, Room 111

I will be there at about 8:15am outside the Auditorium doors...

See you then!! : )
