Highschool transcripts haunting me

okay, well i am on the waitlist to one of the rn schools i had applied to. i called the lady in admissions today to get my waitlist #. she said that they do not use numbers for the people that are waitlisted... instead, when there is an opening they just review everybodys file all over again (everybody pertains to everyone that's currently on the waitlist.)

anyway, i asked her what they review. she said that they look at your highschool transcripts, college transcripts, the essay, gpa, and teas. i think the reason for me being on the waitlist is because they took into consideration my hs transcripts, which were not good grades (b's, c's, and 1 d). when i was in highschool like (5-6 years ago) i did not try to do well in school. plus i did not hang out with the 'nicest' crowd of people.i did not even want to go to college, so obviously i did not care for my grades. since then, i have been in college and i have been making up for it; trying to prove to myself that i am a smart person who can "be a somebody." i have a 3.8 gpa and i study all the time i am even in the honors society!!

i just don't want my past to ruin my future.

what is everybodys take on this?

I am greatful that my high school grades are not considered.

You said this is one of the schools you applied to. How are the other applications looking? Do they also use high school transcripts? Are your high school transcripts over looked once you hit a certian amount of credit hours?

You mentioned TEAS scores were considered as well, unlike high school GPA (and for the most part college GPA after a certian amount of credits) TEAS scores can be improved, so if you can take that bad boy again and rock it.

They must not have placed too much value on your HS grades... you DID make the waitlist!!! You can't change your high school grades so I wouldn't spend time worring about it. If you don't make it this time, go back to the school and ask them how to improve your chances of getting in next time.

Lots of luck!!!

I have similar background like you. During 3 semesters in college, I have all F's. I didn't go to classes but wasn't because I was a bad student, only because I needed to commute and work. Now these marks will stay forever with me and unfortunately, one of pre-req was Psychology that I got F in the first time so I had to retake it and got a B. I know I won't even have a chance maybe when applying, yet I still don't want to give up! You are doing way better than me and should't panic so much. I wish you good luck

Well i do have my community college RN program that i am still waiting for and on that application we were able to choose 3 colleges. 1-most likely to attent 3- least likely to attend. they do not take into consideration the HS trans. They evaluate the applicants like this:

25%Teas

25%AP1 grade

50% GPA

the teas i go a 74.7% but i like rounding up, so i got a 75% lol.

It's weird how different schools can be. The schools around here, if you have 15 hours of college credit, they don't even bother with your HS transcripts (as long as you have a diploma/GED- they don't care what your grades were)

I realize this is important to high school seniors applying to universities (grades) but community college is supposed to a 'fresh' start academically.

Concentrate on programs that do not look at hs transcripts. Most schools do not use high school records once a person has college work completed. So, put your efforts into applying to those schools.

This right here. If my HS grades were taken into account, I never would have gotten into NS. I was like you OP, I didnt do well at all, heck I barely graduated. Wasnt until college I got my act together.
