Hi everyone! I have very high arches and just big feet in general (I am 5'8 and size 10 wide shoe). I had to wear plain white shoes for nursing school and survived but I plan on buying good solid shoes for my first job with my first paycheck. I have read reviews but seem to get mixed views when a nurse has high arches. So please fellow nurses can you help me out and find the perfect 12 hour shift shoe for high arches? Thank you!

Go try multiple types on. What works for 1 person may or may not work for you. I alternate between Danskos and Alegrias. But others I know built similarly can't wear. This is going to be personal thing. But I recommend the 2 brands I wear

Skip danskos- they have a lot of fans but the upper is too stiff and low for really high arches, they caused me crippling foot pain. If you like clogs, Alegria clogs are extremely comfortable and have removable insoles to swap for orthotics if you need them, but they are... unusual-looking. I got a lot of compliments on them, actually, but I thought they were ugly- just comfortable enough to be worth it.
I've had a lot of relief from foot and back pain since switching to minimally cushioned, barefoot-style zero-drop shoes, even at work. This book was what convinced me to try it, and man, it really worked.

The short version is, you don't need the crazy amounts of support and padding built in to most shoes- your feet are functional units that only get in to trouble when you start bracing and padding one part, allowing it to atrophy. Building strength through daily use of your entire foot and leg by walking barefoot or as close to barefoot as you can safely get helps keep things running smoothly without arch support, which can actually cause problems in the long run. Wearing heavy-duty, heeled, padded, arch-support shoes is like wearing a brace all the time- you become dependent on it.

I have really high arches. I find good ol' running shoes the best for me. I recently bought a pair of grey's anatomy clogs and I really like them too. Great arch support in them.

I have really high arches and let me tell you I've searched everywhere for the "perfect" shoe and have yet to find it. My feet used to hurt so bad I finally made an appointment to the foot doctor and he said with high arched feet you have to have support. He made me a insole that was custom to my foot and I've had NO foot pain in the past 3 years. I can take the insoles and move them from shoe to shoe also. Even better, insurance paid for all of it. However, if they were $500, It would have been worth every penny.
