Hello everyone,

My name is Nancy and I am planning to take Associate Degree in Nursing but schools here says you have to take a Nursing Assistant course and then take the board exam to become a CNA. I just want to ask some advice and some infos or what to do, I am kinda confused, is it hard to get into a ASD program? I am wondering, what if I finished and passed my CNA I am worried that getting into ASD program would be hard.

Thanks and God bless :D

If it's a requirement for the schools in your area, then you really don't have a choice. Check with all of the schools to make sure first though.

What state do you live in?

Here at my school here in NC, nursing admission is based on a points system. You get points based on residency, previous courses taken, score on HOAE exam, interview, and then you can get points for "additional education". A CNA certification is worth 5 points. That's a lot, worth more than LPN. Its not required but it is recommended and it certainly can't hurt to go ahead and get it. I just passed my state CNA exam this past Monday...

Hello thanks for the replies I really appreciate it :D, I am from Minnesota and I checked two colleges here and they both required CNA certification.

I am kinda scared with the board exams but I have to do it after taking Nursing Assistant Course.

Do you have any idea how hard to get in to a ASD program like do I need to take some more exams? thanks again :D

Since you are from MN, I have no idea about the requirements in your state. But, I do know that NC is rather strict with their CNA exams and it really wasn't that hard so don't worry about taking the state exam. Here, we have to take the Health Occupations Aptitude Exam and I would imagine your state has something similar.

I can't really speak to how hard it will be to get in nursing school because it varies. We have a school down the street that is very competitive but there is one about an hour away in GA that is way less competitive.

Good luck!

Thank you so much supersara :D i filled up application for Nursing Assistant Course here at Dakota County Technical College, I am looking forward to get my CNA and then get in ASD program :D

God bless

Hi!

I live in MPLS, and attend college at IHCC (Inver Hills Community College) Nursing program and graduate in May! I will tell you that there is not a CNA requirement per se there, but you will be on the bottom for consideration for entrance into the program. I personally had 15+ years CNA, a 3.5 gpa, and was accepted on my first try. Because NS is pretty competitive I was first accepted into the Spring 2009, but was bumped up for Fall 2008 (YAY). There are a few exceptions in my program in that one of my classmates was accepted into the program and wasn't a CNA + zero experience.....but because he was male, he got in!

Good Luck! :)

Hello Angel,

Thank you so much for the info. I was thinking about Invergrove Hills too but too bad I am far from Inver, so my second choice is Normandale.

In Normandale they are very strict :( . Angel, hope you don't mind me asking, are you RN now? is the NCLEX really hard? thanks so much and God bless :)

Good Morning!

I am wondering how you were acccepted to Inver Hills, were you on a wait list for Fall and then got accepted to the spring start? I'm just struggling, because i am on a wait list for fall and wondering if they automatically enroll the waitlisters into the spring start.

Any info you can give me would help!

Thanks:)

Why an ADN program, as compared to a BSN program? You can do an accelerated program in a year longer and this degree will really help with excellent job prospects.
