Hi everyone. Im relatively new to this site, but I am happy to say that I am thoroughly addicted:typing. I am still in highschool, Im a Senior graduating in June:grad:. Im starting a CNA course on april 7th, needless to say I am very excited. I've always wanted to work in a healthcare profession. Here's my plan CNA>RN(ADN)>RN(BSN). I really want to work in a neo natal unit once i am an RN. But im looking into becoming a CRNA also. Im not wuite sure yet. Im getting worried though. Im also taking pre-req's for the nursing program already. Im worried i wont ever get into a program. I know its kind of irrational but its something i worry about because i dont see myself doing anything else. Basically what ive said in this is there any advice anyone can give me, on CNA courses or becoming an rn? I love this site. Hopefully i will make some friends to help me through my journey to becoming an RN. Thanks for listening to my rant eveyrone. Any advice is welcome.:redbeathe

I almost have the same plan as you do. :nuke: I just completed a CNA course in December and am now hoping to get into a ADN program this fall after which I'd like to do an online BSN. I wouldn't worry about getting into a nursing school. The fact that you're taking a CNA course will look really good on your application because they want to make sure you know what type of field your getting in to, plus it is a great experience. Asides from that, find a few nursing schools you know you will want to apply to and try and take all of the general ed. or pre-req. classes and get good grades. If you're really passionate about nursing the nursing school will be able to tell, whether through your admission essay and/or interview and that's what they really look for. Good luck and don't worry, you'll be fine!

Welcome to allnurses!!

Nursing school can be hard to get into, but you can do it. Just keep doing your best. Write down your name and put ",RN" at the end, tape it to your mirror so that you are sure to see it everyday, and then never forget your goal. Nursing is a wonderful profession!!! Allnurses is a wonderful place to get motivation and information, too. I wish you all the best.

Sincerely,

Jay

i think it is great that you are going to be a cna. it will definitely help you to know whether or not you are doing the right thing by going into nursing. it will definitely help you with your nursing school application too.

i have been a cna for all of 4 weeks now and i love it. it is definitely challenging and being 'new' is hard, but as time goes by it gets easier.

i plan to go to nursing school too. i would like to specialize in long term care (ltc) and er. i have to save up money for nursing school first. i have some financial goals i would like to meet and i think i will take some prerequisites too. take your time and enjoy the process of becoming an rn.

best of luck to you!

Take your time and do it right. Make sure you get good grades and have a high GPA, as close to 4.0 as possible and you will have no trouble getting into school.

I got certified about two summers ago as a CNA but i never took my final exam because the place that paid for me to take the class said that I would have to contract with them for 2 years if I did. Does anyone know the process in which i could get certified? ANd where do you work that you love being a CNA? my experience was less than pleasurable.

Bad news....

My class was canceled. That sets me back al ittle bit.

I'm sorry to hear your class was cancelled, but don't get discouraged! There are other options! Try looking into your area nursing homes. Many times they will train you to be a CNA, but the catch is that you may have to work with them for a short-period of time. Also, I hear the Red Cross does classes. Try them. Good luck in your endeavors!!
