HESI Vs. ATI (comparison/opinion)

I have taken the Hesi Exit Exam & the ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor. I have to re-take the Hesi Exit Exam for RN school and I had to take the ATI Comprehensive Predictor exam to graduate LPN school. After taking both tests and seeing what they have to offer I like ATI the best. For me Hesi isn't user friendly, is very vague about what you need to study, and about what you miss on their tests. ATI tells me what I missed and exactly where I need to go to learn about what I missed on the test. ATI also gives me the books I need to study with.

Heres a quick comparison w/ my viewpoint on them:

Hesi Exit Exam

• Before you take the test: There is a book you can use to study "Hesi Comprehensive NCLEX-RN Examination". (This book covers everything you learned thought RN school. There are questions & answers at the end of topics/sections that cover main things you need to know. There are also Hesi hint yellow boxes that you are important to know. One of the yellow boxes was a Hesi Question.)
  

• Right after you take the test; you can hit review: This only gives you a question # and a rational for the question. (This isn't helpful, there were 160 questions on the test. Without seeing the question the rational goes with I have nothing to piece together!)
  

• After you take the test: logon to their student website & you get: a "Detailed Scoring Report" and access to "Review materials Based on your Test Results." (The score report gives charts compering your score to passing scores. It also gives you the question # and what area of nursing that question is in that you missed. I have included a screen shot of part of my Detail Scoring Report. For me this is to broad/vague, I have no idea what I need to study/review or what area its in.)

• Remediation: You have to do a remediation online. This gives information over topics you missed on the test. The remediation can be read online or printed. There are also page numbers and books that you can go to look at the information, however the books are all various evolve books. (This isn't helpful for me. It's alot of information online and the same information is repeated several different times in different remediation sections. I find it difficult to read all of that in one sitting on the computer. There is an option to print them; however I don't have enough ink or paper to print all the stuff I need to read. The books evolve refers to in remediation came from several different evolve books & I don't have access to all thier books.)
  

ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor

• Before you take the test: There are ATI books that you can review. There are different ATI books for areas of nursing that you studied: Fundamentals, nutrition, Adult Med Surge, Nutrition, Pharmacology, etc.. (I had to purchase theses books for LPN school.)
  
• Right after you take the test: you can do a review, however I don't remember what information it gives you. (I took this test about 1 year ago.)
  
• After you take test: logon on their student website and you get access to your test results. These results tell you what you missed & which book to go look in for the information. (This helped me, for it gave me clear direction on what I missed. I had a book in hand that I could carry around with me anywhere & review. The review was straightforward and I was able to understand concepts I missed/got wrong.I have included a screen shot of part of my Test results.)

• Other study items: The student ATI website has other items you can use to study for the ATI test. There are quizzes (w/ rational for each answer), ebooks, and focus reviews you can do to help you prepare for the test. These items did not cost extra. It came with the ATI books & ATI log in. (I really like this, it helped me learn and understand what I missed. I used this to help me study and strengthen my knowledge.)
  

I much prefer ATI over Hesi.

I took the ATI test twice, I did remediation & studied to pass the second time.

I am currently taking/trying to pass the Hesi Exit exam. I have failed Hesi twice, studied & done remediation twice. I am going to have to pay to take the exam a 3rd time and also take my schools "remediation class." I feel that using ATI in school and taking the ATI tests and having the ability to review & see hands on what I missed on my ATI exams helped me pass the NCLEX-PN exam.
