Critical Thinking- Hesi

  1. Hi,

I will be taking the Hesi in a few days and wanted to know, does anyone know about the Critical Thinking portion of this test? The reason I am nervous is because not all situations are 'textbook', and many answers are the textbook answer on the test. For example, one question I get wrong on practice tests, and even sometimes on regular tests is 'what is the first thing the nurse is suppose to do before giving patient care'. Well, the sequence is not always 'WASH YOUR HANDS', immediately before, but some might close the curtain, which is an answer on the test. I am saying that the nurse will eventually wash their hands, but not IMMEDIATELY before, it might be after closing the curtain.

Things happen so fast that sometimes you don't do things in order, BUT YOU DO THEM.

Sorry if the sequence of my paragraph is off, but I was just trying to make the point.

    Thanks.

My advice: GO WITH YOUR GUT. Another thing, all answers are correct but if you choose the best one, you will get more points. Honestly, just think what you would do first if you were a nurse and put in that position. I really don't know how you can study for these type of questions because they are all random, I think you might just be putting too much thought into it that you are freaking out and not able to read/concentrate/understand what the question is really asking. It's all about being positive. EITHER YOU KNOW IT OR YOU DONT.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

In the example you gave in the original post, washing hands would most likely always be the answer as infection control is a major component of HESI and NCLEX.
