Herzing PMHNP program?

Published

I have just been accepted in the RN-MSN program for psychiatric mental health NP. Has anyone done this program? I start March 7 and I am super excited and nervous. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

As a current PMHNP student at Herzing, with am expected grade date of April 2023, I highly DO NOT suggest this program. It has been a nightmare from the get-go. I felt stuck after the first semester because I had already taken out student loans for it. I am an alumni of Herzing's BSN program and loved it. However, the online MSN-PMHNP is a totally different story. I regret getting into this program. I have even spoken to 2 of the university Presidents about the issues and also Rene Herzing.

What types of issues are you having?

Sorry to hear your concerns but can you please enlighten us on what kind of issues you are having. I was just accepted into the program for Spring 2023.  I have a 4.0 GPA from my BSN and I don't want to mess it up because I'm planning to do my DNP afterwards.

I'd appreciate your reply thank you

@PsychislifeWould you be willing to email me re: Herzing PMHNP? I am hoping to start a program January, but would love to hear more about your experience! Thanks! [email protected]

Hello everyone, I am about to apply to Herzing, to those who are currently in the program, would you recommend it? Regarding clinical placement, on their website and after speaking with a recruiter I was told they guarantee clinical placement, how much truth is there to that?  any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently beginning to enter my LAST semester of this program. No, they don't guarantee placement. You look for and arrange your own clinicals. If after 2 semesters of sitting out due to no clinical placement, then they can send you out of state where you have to provide your own transportation and stay.

The program was not what I expected it to be as I am an alumni of one of their campuses, so I had higher expectations. It is a newer program and has a lot of dinges to work out. I personally would suggest an in-person school that actually places you in your clinicals.

No clinical help. Barely any teacher feedback. Sometimes late grading. Recycled online tests that other schools use. 100%teaching yourself and finding your own clinicals.

Thank you WisconsinRN, I appreciate your reply, that guarantee seemed too good to be true, sitting out 2 semesters would really delay your graduation.  good luck with your school.

Hi there.  I agree. The program is OK if you can find your own preceptors. What WisconsinRn stated is exactly correct and can be an issue.  I have a family and work full-time as an RN, so online is a better option.  I do have some preceptors lined up so I guess I am fortunate.  There are places that you can pay for them to place you.  In any case, I wish you all the best.  Herzing is not bad, but you should do what's best for you.

@bluefox491 I am in the Los Angeles area and I am applying for Herzing's RN-MSN-PMHNP January 2023 cohort. I saw one of your responses to this thread about preceptors\NPs and any help with preceptors\contacts would be amazing! I consistently see on these forums its good to line them up sooner than later, especially because Herzing doesn't offer assistance with placement.

I had to take a job at a psych hospital to have all of mine covered. That is my suggestion. Almost no one will take students unless they are employees thanks to Covid restrictions, that 3 yrs later, are still in effect in many places.

I started the program in March of this year. I LOVE the courses so far. I feel they are easy to follow and my instructors are very awesome at giving feedback and advice. I live in rural central Texas so I was panicking about finding a preceptor. My clinical advisor told me about ENP network. It’s a network for NPs, preceptors, and students. You pay a fee, I think around $100 but I forgot the exact amount. I have secured three preceptors for my upcoming clinicals in March 2023. Your first clinical can be an FNP as long as they practice psych as well. You also have the option to do so many hours of telemed. I am truly happy with this program. I do suggest using ENP network. There are also some programs that charge for a preceptor that I’ve looked into for a backup plan. They range from $800-$1000 for a 90 hour clinical. I think one is called Preceptor pointe. If anyone has any questions just email me. All one word: chandra j hill @ Gmail dot come. No spaces I’d be happy to help!!

Hey! I'm currently in the RN-MSN PMHNP program. I have only completed my first two courses, "leadership and management" and "dimensions of advanced nursing practice.” I'm in "Public Health and Global Based Nursing" now. I start clinicals in Jan 2023, but I haven't secured my first preceptor yet. That's the only downfall right now in my opinion. They provide zero help securing clinical placement. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!

Hi! I've read several mixed reviews. Any insight on this program? Was considering transferring from West Coast
