I have just been accepted in the RN-MSN program for psychiatric mental health NP. Has anyone done this program? I start March 7 and I am super excited and nervous. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

@misspsyched yes! Please let’s keep in touch. We could really help each other out. I had the best group of girlfriends in RN school. Email me! Chandra Sikes @ gmail dot com. It’s all one word. My first and last name and then at gmail. We can bounce ideas off of each other. And I’m positive you’ll be accepted. I only had a 3.3!

Hi I would like to know more about the program for those already in it. I applied for the fall PMHNP program and am awaiting for responses to decide between other programs. How are the classes like? Are Professors easily accessible? What does each class comprise of, quizzes, exams, discussion board? Are the exams proctored for each class also? How are you liking the program so far? Do you think they prepare you enough for boards and practicing after graduation? Thanks and hoping to hear from someone.
Hey! I’m currently in the RN-MSN PMHNP program. I have only completed my first two courses, “leadership and management” and “dimensions of advanced nursing practice.” I’m in “Public Health and Global Based Nursing” now. I start clinicals in Jan 2023, but I haven’t secured my first preceptor yet. That’s the only downfall right now in my opinion. They provide zero help securing clinical placement. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have!

Hi thanks for responding back. How are you liking the program so far? How are classess set up? Are they like quizzes, exams, projects? Are you full time and is it doable working and being a full time student? Are professors easily reached when one has questions?
My first two courses were discussion posts, papers, and power point projects. Your initial discussion post is due by Wednesday. Then you have to respond to two peers on two different days. These are due by Sunday night at 1159 pm. Papers and other assignments are all due by Sunday night as well. To me, it’s been very manageable and I have loved my instructors.

Are people actually liking the program? Have heard a lot of mixed reviews. Are professor easily assessable though when needed? You didn't take any exam in your first semester?
The instructors are very easily accessible. No I had no exams at all first two courses

Hi,
I will be starting RN-MSN July 11th and was wondering if I could get some info on the class scheduling/breakdown. Would love to get as much insider info as possible. Thanks in advanced! ?
Hey! Congratulations! So my first two classes were awesome. Basically nursing leadership. Initial discussion posts due by 2359 on Wednesday. Peer replies (2) due by Sunday at 2359, along with any other papers or assignments. Every week you also have modules you have to complete. These are your “textbook chapters” you’d normally read from a book. They’re full of good information and no fluff. I love it. I’m in community and public health now and I absolutely hate it. You create a project clinical. There’s so much busy work. The instructor I have is SO petty and rude. But I only have 2 weeks left LOL. I haven’t started clinicals yet. I start those January 2023. You have to secure your own preceptor. It sucks. I still haven’t found one and I’m panicking. I’d be happy to answer any questions!
@Psychislife Thank you so much for the swift reply. That sounds pretty chill same stuff we were doing for our ADN on canvas. So do we have lectures and such since you brought up your experience with instructors? I like that you feel confident with the reading materials, sounds exciting! Yeah we had to do comm health at the end of the ADN program and had to make a Windshield Survey to break down the demographics/health etc of an area. Was a bit of work. I would look up psych clinics in your area make a call ask when the NP is usually in and try to go in on a day they're there and ask if you can follow. Im in Los Angeles/ OC area. If thats close maybe I can help you out. I know a few NPs.
I am in central TX. But thank you so much!

bluefox491: I start the PMHNP MSN program on Sept 7th. I am a full time Medsurg/Oncology RN with a family, so I'm going to start part time. I'm trying to get transferred to our Psych Unit. I do have one NP that will precept me, so I think I will need to find another one eventually. If you have any leads, please let me know. I wish everyone the best on this journey!
