Yesterday at work, I received a call. The person on the phone asked for me. He asked if I had received my insurance card over the weekend.
I explained I had no idea what he was talking about.
He stated that all Florida licensed personel, receive an insurance benefit card every year by certified mail. He also explained that spouses and dependants can be added on. So he asked my if I was going to add my spouse. I verified that I am single, but would add my dependant child.
He wanted to confirm my address and told me the card would be sent by certified mail. He asked what my address was. He already told me part of my address, and asked if I had an apartment number.
Like an idiot, I told him the apartment number.
He asked if I would be home at 6, I told him I did not get off until 6. So he said that someone would be by at 7pm, to bring this card that would have to be signed for.
So, no one has shown up. Needless to say, I am a little creeped out.
The more I try and rationalize this call, the more I want to call the police and file a report.
Does any one know if this program exisist's.

I ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT NOT NOT NOT OPEN MY DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this person calls back, ask for their office address and phone number, a managers name and contact number. Stop giving information so easily. If you had "insurance" you SHOULD be aware of filling out the information for it. He OBVIOUSLY knew nothing about you or he wouldn't have asked if you were adding your spouse and you are not married. I have NEVER heard of it. I have asked a few nurse friends who don't know what this is either. I would, from now on, NOT give ANY information that you cannot immediately verify as true and honest. AGAIN DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR. Call a friend or neighbor to come stay with you. This person now knows when you get off of work. You should ask your boss for a few hours of leave time and change up your routine. I am NOT trying to freak you out but you CANNOT be TOO SAFE nowadays.

I would also try to look on the caller ID or phone records for any information about where he was calling from. Be safe . . .

If this person is not after you for some reason, then most likely he wants to come to your home and sell you insurance. However, knowing your work place, part of your address, fishing for more info, all sounds creepy to me. Even if you know of no enemies or people who might be holding something against you at this time, you should take the advice given above. And tell your workplace that you are not to be contacted at work in the future. Put it in writing and put in the letter that the contact info of anyone calling for you must be obtained. Place a copy of this letter at the nurses station. Write everything down. The next time it happens, if it does, then take the info to the police and file a complaint.

I got a call at home the other day, hello, pause, then hello, this is garble, from garble insurance, what is the address at your place? I figured the name and the name of the company were garbled on purpose, and I think he probably was a telemarketer of some kind. I just hung up. Maybe he justs wants to send some info out hoping you'll buy something so he can get a commission.

I got a call like this but it called and asked if I had charged X amount to my bank account. I hung up and called the bank and told them the # and they said it was legit; so one had stolen my debit card # and went crazy on line buying $900 worth of stuff from Verizon Wireless last december. I would never give information to some one that CALLS me over the phone. I will call my credit card compony back myself to make sure the person that just called is really them.....
My husband also gets calls saying about increasing the benifits on his credit card....he does not have one, I just hang up.
Thank you so much for the replies.
Heres an update.
Close to 9pm last night, I get a call. The guy on the phone says, sorry I missed our 7 o'clock appt.
I replied I had no appt. Someone was coming with certified mail for an insurance benefits card.
He says, thats what they told you? They only get paid if they set the appt.'s. No appt.'s no money. But their not supposed to do that.
Anyway, he explained that they sell life insurance and discount coupons for meds and glasses. He says they get your info off the stateboard website, because it's accessible information.
I told him that I'm still creeped out and want to fill out a police report.
Supposedly he works for: ASI Work. Or something like it.
A work from home scam. So the person who called me was at home, no bosses monitoring what she's telling me in order to set that appt.
If that is what happend.
I think I will still fill out a report. Their numbers did come up on caller ID.
What a scam. I looked them up on the internet, and they are listed on the ripoff report as well.
Shame on me for falling for it. I really hope this guy was telling me the truth. I'm glad I have a dog.

that is very scary! and to ask you if you would be home by 6pm..... OMG, there are tons of bad people out there. You need to be super careful!
Glad you found out some info so that you have it for a police report. Go ahead and file that police report and also file complaints with the public utilities commission, the FTC, or any other government agency you can think of. Harassment, plain and simple. Not a funny subject for women in today's world.
Also, put your phone number on the national "Do Not Call" list. Many people who did this when it first came out five years ago are not aware that they have to resubmit their info after five years otherwise the companies can start calling again.

Think about this - you not only told him when you would be home, but when you WOULDN'T be home, what your address is and that you are single (meaning the apt is probably empty when you are working). You are very lucky not to come home to find your place cleaned out!
Please be careful and try noty to be "nice" when strangers call you.
