Help w/ newsletter..

Published

I write a newsletter for the unit that I work on (med/surg). So far, it's been fairly well-received (i.e. people read it but are not really willing to submit articles). I am now running out of ideas for articles. So far, I have done articles re: CNA retention, negativity in the workplace, articles re: HIPPA laws, plus others based on what my boss wants included (i.e. our hospital's "Journey to Excellence") just to mention a few. Anyone have any other suggestions? On a typical med/surg unit....what do you see are general issues?

I ran an annonymous "pet peeves" column, let people vent of little irritations. Stuff like dishes getting left in the sink where people wash their hands (do you really want to drink out of a cup I've washed all the grodey stuff off of me onto the cup?). Had a file people could put stuff in. No personal attacks though, just stuff that oils the wheels of the whole unit.

I picked a disease of the month, wrote about that, updates on new things etc.

I rewrote all the memos that came out, rather tongue in cheek.

Put in people's birthdays (not the year), anniversary dates. Congratulated people on classes they took, or accreditations. Also stuff from outside theit hospital lives, such as births, vacations, etc.

Profile a nurse of the month, get to know your coworkers on another shift.

Have fun with it! :)

These are great ideas. I like "disease of the month" and "pet peeve" column. I already do birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, etc. I also profile two staff members each month.

Good Luck,

Jessica
