Hello Everybody! Should I retake Human Anatomy for the 3rd time in 8 weeks in the summer or should I retake it in Fall 2019 semester (16 weeks) along with Microbiology (never took micro before)? I'll be taking the TEAS Test in either Dec 2019 or Jan 2020. So that means I need to study for the TEAS by the end of May/beginning of June of 2019.

Summer Pros: Taking the class by itself in summer, good professor, no cadavers, and I have previous videos/notes/study guides/lecture recording from my previous original professor/class.

Summer Cons: 8 weeks, the school is about 25-30 mins away.

Thank you for any help you can provide! 🙂

Retaking it for the third time?  No. Do not take it in the summer. I would not even advise taking it together with Micro.  Take it by itself if you have to.  You want to get an A if possible so make it easier on yourself.  MHO.

Why are you taking it for a 3rd time? Did you have trouble passing? Or do you just want a refresher on the material? If the class is difficult for you, I agree with taking it alone during a regular semester. You need to not just pass the class with an A, but actually know and retain the information and body processes. Your understanding of this material will seriously impact your ability to learn pathophysiology and therefore a lot of the information in nursing classes.

If you don't feel confident in doing it in a shorter time, then by all means, go for the full semester; however, taking two heavy sciences at once can also stretch your concentration. If you feel you can perform better focusing on one class, despite the shorter time frame, go for summer. If not, brush up your time management skills and get ready to buckle down with two sciences. Sounds like you will be studying for the TEAS anyways regardless. Both can be challenging. Which would you feel more comfortable doing?

I agree with others, it depends on why you are re-taking it. If it's just that you took it awhile ago and you are refreshing, summer should be fine. If you are retaking it because you struggled with it before, I would recommend taking it during a full semester. You mentioned the drive to class in the summer. That takes time out of your week as well. I took 5-hour chemistry and A&P 1 last semester together and got A's in both. I have a job & kids so it was hectic and time-consuming, but doable.

Since you already have materials from taking A&P previously, I would recommend spending time every week between now & when you re-take it (schedule time on your calendar for it) studying the terms and concepts so that you're set to go when class starts. Most teachers have office hours and love to help you if you need extra help...and definitely go to open lab times -- you will have access to all the models and a teacher there to help if you have questions. If you can, go to the open lab time that your specific teacher hosts so that he/she can see that you're putting in the effort. Best of luck to you!!
