This goes out to all you experienced nurses.
I have a paper due (April 20th 2009) in which my patient is a young elderly greek male who has COPD and has now suffered a pelvic fracture. I have to create a scenario dealing with the 1st 24hrs of care and then seg into assessment, nur diagnoses & interventions, cultural aspects etc. After reading up on these two, I'come to the conclusion that my biggest concerns will be pain, gas exchange and anxiety. I also thought that he would be at risk for atelectasis, pneumonia, PE, DVT, fat embolism, and VTE. Also because I didn't want to make my paper too complicated, I am making the pelvic fracture a stable one.
The purpose of this paper is to show how a one problem can be compounded by another. My questions to you all are: Am I on the right track? Are there more problems that I should be looking out for? Has anyone had any experience(s) with young elderly greek male patients and how are they like in general? (I know they won't be all alike, I just need ideas about how they respond to nursing care and how they participate in their care). I can't seem to find alot of research on greek people and their views on health.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions or help you provide.
