I need some help please. I studyeverything the teacher dictates but yet on the last few tests ive missed an A because I cant seem to narrow down to the right priority answer. is there some source that would help. my last test that I and a good portion of my class thought we Aced , I got a C on and renal is coming next. I have the nclex tests and I do those but I need something that would help with picking the best of two good. if this makes any sense and anyone could help I sure would appreciate it

ABC's are always first priority. Next would be nursing interventions you can do *right now* for the pt, versus waiting for a dr.'s order. E.g. pt in resp distress, ensure airway patency, apply oxygen, place pt in orthopneic position, give med nebs if already ordered, *then* get orders for ABG's, CXR, etc.
Make sense?

Here are some good points to remember: Never choice a "why" question, ABC'S (make sure if you choose airway, there is an airway issue!), what is the safest action for the patient, always take care of pt. first not the equipment,, never pass the buck (like call the Dr.) if there is something you can do first!!, and always ask yourself what is the best thing that I can do for this patient and walk out that door and know they will be ok!! Try these, they really helped me in critical thinking. The last point is really important. Good Luck.

This is a book recommended on this site for NCLEX exam adn by my friend who already passed her boards, but it deals with prioritizing. It's "Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment: Practice Exercises for Medical-Surgical Nursing," you can find it online or at major bookstores. Also, I found the Med-surg Success book by Colgrave extremely helpful with my med/surg exams.
Good luck! Hope that helped.
thank you all soooo much! and which book do you recomend more Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment: Practice Exercises for Medical-Surgical Nursing or the med surg : acourse review applying critical thinking for test taking and are either better then my regular medsurg made easy if you know please and thank you:mad:
I did not use the Med/surg made easy book, so I can't compare. All I can add is that the classmates that used the Med/Surg success book found success. I believe it is what got me through med/surg II. I only recently started using the Prioritization book, so I can't compare it directly to school success. I hope that helps.
As you will probably find in other threads, the more NCLEX style questions you work the sooner you will find the overall rhythm.
thanks again i think i will get both . do you use this in your work too or only in school in test taking?
I can't imagine using them at work only because I have never seen anyone with them while in clinicals or when I was working as a tech. In my state GN's aren't accepted so I am not working currently. Still waiting for the state to process my application.
You'll do great!
I didn't think thats what yu said just want ed to make sure. thanks again, Good luck to you as well.
I just heard about a place statnursing.org have u ever heard of that or used that
