Help with neurological disorder

Hi!

My name is Tracy and I am hoping someone can help me. I am not a nurse but I am applying this fall and hopefully will start nursing school this spring. My question involves a neighbor who just happens to be a nurse.

She was trying to explain to my mother what she has but my mother really didn't understand what she was saying and I am trying to read up on it.

Here are her symptoms: she has trouble with speech and has a hard time keeping balance when she walks. One time I saw her walking and I thought that she was drunk. We thought that she may have MS but she does not.

She told my mother that it has something to do with migraines and an artery that goes down her neck that affects her speech and walking.

This women is no older than 35 and has 2 little girls. It breaks my heart to see her.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? I am sorry if my description is too vague.

it may be something to do with her carotid artery in her neck, but from your discription it may be something like an aneurysm. which is a malformation in the blood vessel usually treatable. it could also be something affecting the cerebellum which is at the back of the head this would control balance. my advise would be her to sek medical advise especially if it is not ms. she needs to have a ct scan or an angiogram which would diagnose her.

She does have a neurologist and today they had to give her a shot of demerol in her neck to relieve the pain. They say she has something called migraine d....

It is untreatable and has to do with her nerves. Eventually she will end up in a wheelchair.

Probably the best thing you could do is get her to join the board herself so that she could talk to us directly. Second and third hand information has a habit of getting garbled and you end up with really strange advise.

Thanks anyway - I wasn't asking for advice for my neighbor. I just thought that someone had experience with this type of disorder and could give me a name so I could read up on it.

The trouble with Neuro is that the symptomatology can be teh same for various disorders because it the root cause is disruption at X point in the brain but knowing what symptoms of the disruption are and identifying the cause of that disruption are two different things.

You have me confused. What are you appalled about??? Also, she said it was a neighbor, not her "mommy".
