Help negotiating pay

I moved to Los Angeles area from the East Coast. I am interviewing for a position that is a medical case manager at a medical office facility( not from home). They want to know what I want for pay? I have 7 years of acute care experience and I am not sure how much to ask for. I told them it is negotiable and we can discuss at the interview, but that it needs to be in line with California cost of living. If I were in my old state, it would be easy to come up with a number. They also did not specify salary versus hourly. Can anyone help with a ballpark of what to ask for? I do not by any means have this position yet, but they have asked me 4 separate times about what I want for pay and I need an answer. They also have not mentioned benefits yet which makes it harder.

How much should I ask for? What would you accept or not accept?

Use GlassDoor to find out what the comparable salary is in the area. That might help, it also lets you put in your work/experience and estimates your "worth" if you create a profile. Good luck!

OP: Ask HR of that organization because recruiters are suppose to give you a range if you ask. By the way, your position is not really negotiable. You are the one who stated negotiable, but you are not in the position to negotiate from what I have read. You do not have any work experience or the certification to be an attractive candidate in this specialty. Thus, the employers who are interviewing you are just trying to gage how realistic you are or are not when it comes to a starting salary.

I explained the situation, me being from out of state, so she understood what I meant.

I promise you that they do not care about your situation. They have a budget and there is no shortage of experienced CMs or newbies. Talk to HR because they will not offer you more compared to the range quoted to them by their HR rep. In fact, they will likely pay you the bottom of that range. GL!
