Hi there! This is the very first question/topic that I'm starting here as I've recently joined and I could really use some good advice. My name is Robyn and I'm 17. I'm from WB, India. I have just recently graduated high school and I am interested to pursue a career in nursing, but guess what?! I was (am) a Humanities student (means I mostly studied liberal arts subjects in high school). Here, in India, we're supposed to choose a 'stream' of study when we enter high school (11th grade); I chose Humanities a.k.a Arts out here.
A little bit of background story I'm gonna give you here: My parents really wanted me to become a doctor, but, unfortunately, all hope was lost when I took up Humanities (and not Science) in high school. The fear of Physics and Math led me to take this decision. I realised it was just not my "thing" and I just didn't see myself becoming a doctor in the future, although I did really like the subject of Biology (I still do!). I didn't even have any idea back then that I could also pursue Nursing as a career. Lack of information and knowledge, I guess. Well, anyway, coming back to the PRESENT, I've always really loved the whole idea of nursing, but I never bothered to look it up anywhere 'cause I thought it was something exclusively meant for females (silly, I know!). I blame the society around me for that. On top of that, I thought that being a Humanities student, I didn't even stand a single chance of ever becoming a nurse or whatsoever! Well, luckily, I know NOW that even being a guy, I can still become a male nurse and make a change!
I know there is no way on earth that I can get into a BSN program or anything like that after high school. So, I've decided that I'm gonna major in either Psychology or Journalism for now. But, go figure! I learned about this Accelerated BSN program that is offered in the U.S. at different colleges for those who already have a degree in a field unrelated to nursing and it revived all my lost hopes of ever being able to help and care for people as a nurse. I'm really sorry for this long story and I'm gonna get to my main point now. I could really use some advice on how I should plan my path from now on in order to get into a good college? Am I eligible for an ABSN program out there being a non-American? Any thing(s) that is crucial for me to know before I apply for any such program or even for a nursing career as a whole? What to expect, and what not to? Any helpful tip for pre-requisites, letters of recommendations, or any sort of volunteering for application or anything at all would be really helpful!
I'm really passionate and serious about getting into the nursing career and I'm not at all considering because it "looks like a good alternative to being a doctor". Not at all! I have this kind, compassionate and caring "me" inside me and I really feel like the nursing would be an ideal profession for me. Thank you.

You need to compete all the prerequisite courses. this list is pretty standard for most nursing programs, it also requires statistics, and som general ed classes in communications, diversity etc. usually this list is what your entrance GPA is based on, some programs will require less classes and some will require more.

Hi. I wanted to know if I am eligible to enter the Accelerated BSN program in nursing school in the U.S. if I already have a 3-1/2 year diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from another country. In case I am eligible, then will it work in favour of my odds of getting accepted into the program?
I'd really appreciate a helpful answer to my query! Thank you.

Most likely you would need to contact an admissions counselor at the programs you are interested in for an accurate response.
