Help for NCLEX study in Cleveland Area

Published

Hello, I'm new to this site but I'm a bit desperate. Just found out I failed my NCLEX after 265 questions. Anyone have suggestions for NCLEX review classes available in the Cleveland OH area? Kaplan does not start until March and I'm not rich enough for the $1200 Buszta (wish I had the $450 a month ago but, that's life...sometimes kicks you when you're down). I really want to get this done in 45 days and move on with my life. Thanks everyone!

Read a negative post concerning the Buszta course. Suggest you look for the Hurst review instead, or invest in the Kaplan course. If money is an issue, you might consider doing this on your own. Many people who use the Saunders Comprehensive Review, Linda LaCharity book on prioritization, and the Kaplan review book are able to pass without attending a live review. Good luck.

Thanks for the info caliotter3! The Buszta class sounds fantastic (for those who can afford it). I've done it on my own once...I was very familiar with the material but was reading waaaay to much into everything. I really need someone to teach me how to test (and deal with my test anxiety). I will definitely look at the LaCharity book (prioritization and Endocrine were my weak areas). Someone else (in a diff state) mentioned the Kaplan book. I'm going to the bookstore this week.

It would be very helpful to have a "real person" to get me on the right track.

Thanks again!!!

Hi! I live here in Parma and I'm a foreign nurse graduate. Yeah, Buzsta wanted $6,000 from me coz am a foreign nurse and failed the exam before. I'll be starting Feb.1 with NCSBN and just had PDA by La Charity delivered yesterday. Don't want to get overwhelmed with all these reviewers so I'm doing it per topic/area.

Try searching online your city library, they have a variety of nclex reviewers.

Good luck!

LaCharity sounds like the thing to have :). See, that's why I LOVE nursing...people are (usually) in it to help others (not just themselves).

I don't want this to be an anti-Buszta thread, her classes are great and everyone that I know that took them did FANTASTIC on the NCLEX...I think we're all just upset that some privileges are not available for those who really need them :(. You either show up there with cash in had or don't show up at all. It would be more tolerable if she tried to work with those less fortunate.

Well, I'm sure we're all going to get through this...after all, we did make it through Nursing School :D (w/o the Buszta).

Hi,I'm an international nurse too and i failed nclex with 265.I try to be positive and started already to study again..I hope this time i will do better..for me i think the wording of the questions does not help..How was for you Michael'sprv8RN the test?

I honestly didn't prepare enough with my previous test coz I was busy then on processing of coming to the US, house transfer, kids, etc...I took the test just for the sake of taking it. Now that all is set, I do have all the time to prepare and hope I'm doing it right.

Are you referring to the wording of the questions on the nclex? For me, it isn't that hard to comprehend. Stemming what is being asked I think is the best way only that I lacked content coz no matter what without the knowledge you won't get it right. Kaplan's ABC's, Maslow's...doesn't apply to all questions.

Good luck!

Thank you Michael for your reply. You 've seen by now the requirements for this test and their books ..they are diferently structured ,at least for me,I'm from Eastern Europe.I failed with 265 and i don't know what i did wrong..i was close but now i have to try again but it seems that decision tree for me doesn't work.

Any advice?

Hi Bulinutza78, you mentioned you're from Eastern Europe..I know that things are taught differently there.

I'm Romanian and although I've been here in the States since grade school, the wording messed with me too. I wasn't sure what they were looking for. I graduated from a very good Nursing school with a high GPA but standardized exams really get to me.

My cousin explained some tricks to me in Romanian and it made a lot of sense (I should have talked to her before I took the darn thing). Maybe if you know someone who speaks your language and has been successful on the exam, you may understand the questions.

I have just signed up for the ATI online course and have ordered all the above mentioned books from the library (save some $$ :) ) But the best thing is just talking to my cousin and friend (both successful w/ 75 questions...both took some review course before taking the NCLEX).

Good luck everyone! And again, thanks for the advice.

Hei girl,I'm Romanian too.I battled this darn thing and spend 5 hours 265 q and failed.I'm in States for two years now and I can take it anymore.I have to work as a nurse because not beeing next to pacients and take care of them is like something is missing I'm not whole.I worked back home for 8 years as a nurse and I got my "principalul" also and now is just not fair.If you have any advice please live a message. If you want to collaborate please live a private message or live me your yahoo acount.Bine te-am gasit,Carmen.

4hope I send you a PM
