HELP MOVING TO IRVING Texas

Published

Hello I am a new grad ADN RN. I will be moving to Irving Texas with my new husband I currently have and active LPN license I have been and LPN for 3 years I was just wondering how is the job market out there for new grad RNs with ADNs and should I just work as an LPN until someone calls me thanks in advanced for your answers.. I will be moving from Louisiana to Texas if that makes a difference.

Welcome!

I moved your thread to the Texas forum...someone will be along to help you out....Good Luck and Congrats on your marriage and graduating!

The Dallas/Ft Worth job market is very competitive and over-saturated with new grad ASN/BSN's.

You will need to have your Texas license before most employers will take your applicaton seriously.

What field are you looking to get into? Hospital based is very competitive, sometimes hundreds of applications for 1-2 positions.

Plus many are not even looking at those with an ASN, they are wanting BSN's.

LTC/LTAC has better opportunities, as does home health and some of the outlying hospitals.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I mostly agree with the previous poster. Irving, like most of the DFW metro area, is a BSN-preferred city, although associate degree nurses who make good impressions are offered jobs.

Irving is smack-dab in the middle of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The area has been glutted with too many nurses since 2009, but you should be fine if you pound the pavement and are willing to accept work outside the acute care hospital setting.

LPNs are referred to as licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) in the state of Texas.

It's very hard right now to get a job within DFW most employers want BSN applicants. I graduated May 2014 but passed boards in October and it's been hard to find a job with my ADN. I would say look into the outskirts of the DFW area because they hire ADNs more than within. So you might have to drive further. Check HCA Denton, and Parkland because they hire ADNs. I was able to land a job in Waco - Baylor Scott and White. HCA Denton offered me a position first but they had a better deal. So it just depends but it's very saturated like others say.

I was hoping to work in the hospital most of my previous nursing experience(LPN) has been in LTC and home health and I wanted to do something different I have received an offer in my home state of Louisiana for a medsurg floor with good pay plus a sign on bonus if I choose to stay I think I will get my license transferred over and put some apps in and not move until I for sure have a job lined up for myself that way I can still be working and gaining experience as an RN
