Published

Hello all! Originally from Chicago, now living in Florida Fort Myers #1 capitol of the world for unemployment and every horrible thing! Been at the same health system. 8 years from CNA to MedSurg nurse....Tele. wage freeze, lower pay AND benefits goin up 20% this nov. Housing rent good.g up. Irvine/orange county bound we will be in the next couple months....advice on hospitals? Catholic elementry schools? I want ICU....residency/ training. Taking my pals and acls now. Crna school in a year or so.

Any advice is welcome! I hear that part of Calif is beautiful, mostly safe, and great pay...even tho its expensive to live.

Thank u!!!

Orange Co. isn't too expensive now, especially due to the economy. Do your homework regarding homes; there are some good homes to be had with decent prices.

Regarding Catholic elementary schools, there are plenty. My cousins went to St. John Bosco. Then Mater Dei for high school.

Thanks again

bump....anyone????

Regarding pay, there were some earlier threads that listed some pay, so you can start there for an average. There's also websites that give you a guesstimate as well.

As for rent to owns, I don't think that's a really popular option... but I haven't done much research into it. You can search some real estate sites (redfin or zillow) to name a few.

Good luck!

As far as icu. Everyone is only hiring experienced icu nurses. A couple hospitals have only been doing cutbacks. There are very few jobs here. Your best bet is to find a hospital that will hire you into tele & then try to transfer to icu in 6 months or a year. Then they will put you into classes. Experienced rn makes around 34 to 35/hr. Not including night shift dif. that's another 4 to 6/hr. Safe 2 bedrooms in apartments are around 1500 month. Houses probably close to 2k. Don't know anything about rent to owns or catholic schools.

Thank you I appreciate it.

I actually found a few of the hospitals willing to train for critical care and RN residency programs. So, it's not too negative at the moment. :)) Im praying it works out. Waiting for a call back now.

I have looked into rentals and in Orange County there are some nice rentals for $1000 3 bdrm/2 baths...and will take my pets...I also have a patient's son, I kept in touch with who is a realator there...so I'm hoping something comes up there.

How do you like living there? Are you in OC?

I' love it here. Where did you find.a 3 bed 2 bath for a grand? I'm paying 1500 for a 2 bedroom apartment. I t hink that's unrealistic here especially in a safe area. I'm glad you found something that has a residency. Hopefully they are hiring
