:o i need some advice - my husband went walking into er, came out in wc, because of insurance must stay in nursing home for 60 days til he can come home to qualify for all the aid we can receive. i make decent living as nurse, he worked refineries with no insurance. we live on a budget with kids, mortage, and really can't afford a new vehicle right now. hospital bills rolling in, nursing home has us on payment plan til medicaid kicks in - i apparently make a little too much money!! we have 1 vehicle elevated suv that does not qualify for lift so we were told - does anyone know of protable lifts that could attach to an suv they he could safely roll up and transfer to front seat? is that even possible? any advice, help, words of wisdom would be grately appreciated!!

would it be possible to trade the suv for a van? minivans are probably the best vehicle for handicapped use. they sell used handicapped vans too. try googling "handicap van." i don't know what state you're in but you also might try googling "handicap van" + (your state). you also might try some other local resources via your social worker.

here are a couple of links to get you started.
