HELP! City Tech Nursing fall 2015

Published

Hello all, im new to this site, so I have no isea if im posting in the right area. But I attend City Tech in brooklyn ny, I came in as a transfer student from expensive LIU, anyway i took anatomy and physiology there, but at LIU its two different classes. Anatomy is 4 credits and physiology is 3 credits. At City Tech the these bio classes are a&p 1 and a&p2. So to balance out my credits at LIU, i had to retake a&p2. When i recived all my prereqs for city tech, i noticed on the website it says a&p1 cannot be taking more then 5 years ago. Being that City tech took my anatomy grade as a&p1. I took it over 7 years ago. But i also see on the website if you got a grade of c or better in one of the prereqs, then you can take a higher class to replace that grade. I took a&p2 last year. So should i retake a&p1??? Im really confused about this. And no one picks up the phone at the nursing office in the pearl building. And when i go there to ask questions the office is closed! This is the only class im missing. But not exactly. My grades are a&p1 c+ ( which is bad i know, took it almost 10 years ago), a$p2 B, Child phy B, Math 1275 A, Eng B+, reg Phy B. Should i take teas to see if ill get in? Or wait and take a&p1 over?? I wonder if i sit for the teas 5 score a very high grade what will happen. If i take a&p1 for spring 2015, i may have to wait to apply to the program for spring 2016, which is so annoying, because i heard that they have to see all your grades before you apply to their nursing program. Helllppppppp what do i do????????????????

Swade,

I graduated from City Tech's AAS program in 01/2014. I am going to be very frank with you. As your grades stand, I doubt that you will be accepted to the program. While the minimum GPA requirement is 2.5, it is very unusual for a student to be accepted with a prerequisite GPA below 3.5. The TEAS scores are not included in admission decisions. Regardless of your scores, as long as you pass, you are allowed to apply for the program. You should also know that you can only replace one score. Also, they are very strict about science classes, and therefore if it was not taken within 5 years you will need to repeat them.

Lastly, I would like to give you some advice based on what I have seen. I was a tutor for a number of students within the program, and therefore feel that I am equipped to give you some feedback. All of the students that I have tutored entered the program with GPAs of 3.85 and higher. All of them found this program to be harder than any of their previous coursework. I was in the top 10% of my class, and I struggled to pass. In fact, the salutatorian of the May 2014 class (2nd highest scores), failed a number of tests. City Tech prides themselves in their high first time NCLEX pass rates. However, they are less open about the fact that of the 90 students in the fundamentals cohort, the average graduating class is 30-40. Nursing school is a huge commitment and investment in terms of time and money. There are a number of schools to choose from, and City Tech is definitely not one of the easier ones. Think carefully before you commit.

Thanks for the info.. Im still going to apply.. If my grades are up to par.. And most definitely looking at other schools.. Nursing is hard period.. It seems as if the schools that are harder to get into are the cheaper ones lol..

Did you get an answer from the nursing dept. yet?

Yup. I have to take it over. Its old.

But can you still apply for fall 2015? Or do you have to wait until spring 2016?

Hi, I'm going to apply to the fall 2015 program as well. I have a b+ in A&p1, A in Eng, b+ in Psych (trying to get the grade changed to a A-) and I'm taking math 1275 now, probably will get a b+. I take the teas on the 30th, and I'm super nervous. I saw a different forum where someone with my grades and a 66 on the teas get in so I'm optimistic but you never know, every year the pool of ppl have different grades

I absolutely understand! Those 2 weeks of waiting were the worst ever! Getting into the program is mad easy...once you're in the program that's when ^*#t gets real!! You need to emotionally/mentally prepare yourself for all the changes like lack of social life, dwindling friends, your life will be nursing and nursing alone! I'm sure you've this before many times, but when it actually hits you, you'll understand.. students in your batch bcme your friends, you learn different coping mechanisms. Me and a few of my friends go for a drink after each exam, it helps relieve stress.. one word of advise tho: when you're in the program, read, read, read!!!!! that's all! Oh and make friends with students in upper semesters..

Good luck, and hope to see you during orientation.

Do they just look at the teas v score and pre req gpa?
