I hate math too but it wasn't bad in LPN school. Just ask for help and make sure you "get it" before moving on to something else. I am going back for my RN and I tested way low in math on the entrance testing so I have to take an extra math class as part of the pre reqs, which is good so I'm not lost. Just be diligent and work hard at it and you will be fine.
Ty! Im horrible at it and have horrible test anxiety as is. Never been good at it. Should i do LPN OR RN?PROS & CONS?
If nursing is in your blood and you have a natural talent for it, then RN for sure. :)

I'm very weak in math, and I am going for my RN. Get a tutor, study hard, and do whatever it takes to accomplish your goal. I spend many hours a week with a tutor at school, and I did fine in math last semester. I plan to do just fine this semester as I move into higher math, as long as I stick with my tutor and dedicate the time to practicing problems and making sure I have a concrete understanding of the material.

I've always been very apprehensive about math. Had teachers in high school tell me I wasn't "cut out for math" and that's always stuck with me. But, now in nursing school, I've realized that the nursing math isn't the really scary MATH (like the crazy trigonometry or calculus my husband can do, lol!), it's most just basic stuff like adding/subtracting/multiplying, and the key is to memorize the formulas. Lots and lots of practice, so that knowing which numbers to plug into which spot in your formula, and from there it's easy.
Thank you all sooo much!

I am terrible at math!!! I had a counselor tell me that I was at a middle school level of math. The only thing you need to do for nursing is add, subtract, multiply, and divide. I'm doing ok, and that's the highest form of math I know. You will learn a couple formulas where you will figure out how to put the numbers in the right spot, and what to multiply and what to divide. It's not as bad as it seems. Get a tutor to help and you can get through it.

being weak in math is not an exclusion to nursing. Yes we use math every day.....it is basic algebra. There are tutors at your college to help you.
Good luck!
Algebra is the weirdest for me. I can understand some but not all. IM going to try the tutor thing but I tried it before and it didn't work. :-(

I am getting my prereqs now. This spring I will be in college algerbra!!! I go to the Community College in my area and they offer remedial courses. Yuck, I hate that word! Does not sound good. Anyway I started out in 0300 math. That is starting in 3rd grade math and going up to fraction stuff. I needed it. I was never good at math bc I was scared of it. I still am scared but I know what I am doing now. Well like I said I took 0300 then 0301 then 0302 and then 0303. Now I am finally in college algerbra! My school has flex courses so I could take 2 of these per semester. It did not take as long as you might think. I got A's or B's and am so happy to get math over with this spring! Well I do need statistics but I refuse to think about that until I get there! Good luck!
