Hello I'm a new grad and lookin

Published

Hello!! :) I'm in a bit of dilemma and need help. I graduated last December and got my RN license in March and still haven't gotten a job in Florida in my area. I'm considering Bronx, NY but I would like to know what's the nurse to patient ratio for specialties such as med-surge, Postpartum/Mother-Baby, Telemetry and/or community/rehab? Is it hard to get a job over in the Bronx and as a new grad? I've tried many places in Broward County, FL but no luck...Any suggestions?

New York City is one of the toughest markets in the nation for new grads. If you don't have a firm job offer in hand with salary determined and a start date, no way would I make that move. New York and California both are well known to be the toughest markets in the nation.

If you are going to try relocation to find work you will need to look at places that are less "desirable" for living. Think smaller towns, more rural spaces where fewer people are drawn to live.

Thank you! I'll def consider that :)

Do you have a BSN? A lot of hospitals are getting pretty picky about wanting a BSN and atleast 1 year experience (atleast here in ohio) I am a new RN also I got my license in August. I am going to work in a longterm/skilled facility for my first year and go back for my BSN then try to find work in a hospital!

Yup I have a BSN. It's just hard to get a job especially when one has limited options. Lol I can't drive and all I have is BLS certification. So it's hard to get one where I live though there are job openings. I really wish they can give new grads a chance. I said Bronx, NY because my aunt lives there and she's a LPN and I can still get referred by her but don't want to make any hasty decision without researching my facts. Like "not.done.yet." said, upstate is one of the toughest markets for new grads.

I say apply for the job before you move and use your aunts address as your address on your resume and go from there
