HEDIS nursing?

Any LPNs here do HEDIS from home as a nurse? I am an LPN with my medical coding certificate, but haven't took the CPC-A yet (medical coder exam). I have been wanting to do a work from home nursing job for some time now. I recently signed up for a HEDIS course next month in another state. Has anyone here took a HEDIS course before? I have no experience in it, but am trying to learn more about it and get in to the field.

I'm in the same spot as you. LPN, needing to work from home for a few years and I'm looking at Hedis trainings online wondering if I should spend money on a training that isn't guaranteed to open any doors...

I agree... I'm not sure if this course will help me land anything work from home or not. I have looked at the online trainings as well. The one I am doing will be in person. I thought it may help me understand HEDIS better if someone was explaining it. I am not having any luck finding anything work from home, because I've been a SAHM the last several years. I have been substitute teaching on and off as well at my child's school, due to the great schedule with my kids... However, I would really like to start working in nursing again, because substitute teaching isn't nursing pay... I need to work from home though if possible... I'll let you know how it goes...

I'm in a course now that teaches HEDIS, Chronic Care Management, Remote Patient Monitoring, and Health Coaching. It was put together by Maria Peppers, LPN and she is well know in the CCM world. She gets a lot of calls for  her nurses (trained in her program). She places a lot of LPN's in remote jobs. Let me know if you'd like more info. I know this post is older, just in case you haven't found what you're looking for.

I was thinking of taking the coarse you mentioned above.  Wanted to see your thoughts on the content and if you feel that this was a worthwhile coarse.  Were you able to find a HEDIS job?

thank you in advance

Hi Jennifer,

I haven’t been looking for a HEDIS job, as the season is between Oct- March. The program was worth it for me. I’m searching for a remote Chronic Care Manager or Remote Patient Monitoring position. I have a couple interviews next week. My resume was redone for me (part of the cost of the course) and it’s getting attention. Marie has a jobs page when you finish the course, and daily adds remote jobs. She has just started offering a HEDIS only course that has a lower cost if that’s the only part you’re interested in. Over 300 of her nurses from the course were hired for HEDIS positions. I think it definitely is worth it and gives you an edge when hiring season comes. She’s made many connections and companies want to hire her nurses.

Wishing you the best,

Rhonda

Hi, thanks for everyone's responses on this topic! I just wanted to update.. I actually was offered a contract HEDIS job recently. However, I had to turn in down, because I just took a job as a medical coder. I passed my medical coder exam a few months ago. I am currently working remote right now for a local hospital. I think having my LPN definitely helped me get the coding job. After working for a coder as a while, I may start applying for HEDIS positions again. However, I'm going to focus on my coding career for now. ?

Hi andreasmom02,

I'm just seeing this post. Can you tell me where you got your coding training from? I'm looking for a program as well with hopes of becoming a coder. Thanks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is a link to her FB page that describes her courses. I took all of them, I’m now working from home as a utilization review case manager and I absolutely love my job! https://www.facebook.com/groups/Remotenursesjobs/?ref=share
