Hello,
I am a 23 year old male RN (BSN), that works in a level 1 trauma center ED. Looking to possibly join USAF reserves.
Currenlty there's two problems that disqualify me:
1. I am over the required maximum weight to join.
2. I have a history of HTN, including having to be on medications to control it.
The first problem I'm not worried about as I have lost significant weight in the past and know I can be under the maximum weight without problems. The second is trickier, but I believe with weight loss I can get off my HTN medications.
My question is if I lose weight, and if I get my HTN under control, get off my medications and have a doctor sign papers saying that I no longer need treatment for HTN, is that enough?
Will I automatically be disqualified at MEPS because of my history of HTN with medication use? Is there any chance for me?

I believe that you will need a waiver. The ability to get said waiver will depend on the needs of the service at the time. If you don't ask, the answer will always be no! Good luck!! :)
Thank you for the reply.
I made the mistake of telling my healthcare professional recruiter in the voicemail I left that as of now I am disqualified. So I'm not holding my breath to get a call back.
