Rotating shifts

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Hey everyone !!! So i have been in healthcare for about 4 years For three of them i was A unit secretary and I recently started a position as a pcna ! I love it so far but, on my unit everyone is required to do rotating shifts! Example : i worked A Saturday day shift then had to flip to night shift for Sunday. Also I worked this past Friday night shift now I work Monday Tuesday day shift ! I honestly feel exhausted and i wanted to know what tips there are to not feel so drained when switching back and forth! Also is it something that just takes time for my body to get used to ? thanks so much

Personally I wouldn't continue doing that. I think it's inhumane of any facility to force someone in to alternating their sleep cycles like that. Some people do it and are fine. You and I are not like that. I work nights and, unless I have about 6 to 7 days off consecutively find it challenging to flip flop from sleeping during the day to sleeping during the night. It takes work and preparation to go from one to the other. I get angry when they try and break up my days let alone switching from nights to days. I'd work elsewhere.

I honestly agree and i dont think it's right! When i first Took the Job I was under the impression I would flip for like a week out of a 6 week scheduling period and have some days off in between! It's sad because i have Been applying to the clinic forever:( but, i guess All through the company they are making nurses and aids do this and we have to wait two years before switching positions :(
