Off sick with stress. Very sad :-(

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Hello hope you are all ok. I work in the UK - basically I set up care packages for compex and often difficult families and sort finances out. I've been in the job nine months and yesterday was signed off with acute stress. I hate the job and I have nicely told my managers this at least three times with no changes being made- they say the right words but nothing changes. I feel that I'm getting the p1ss taken out of me as I've taken on all the cases the management did and the team beneath me see me as the go to person and I just don't have time to help them. I get around 20 calls and emails a day and one man phones 40 times a day! What am I meant to do? Yesterday I snapped every weekend is awful at home because I dread going back

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I know what it's like to be stretched so thin, like a rubber band that finally snaps in the middle. I too have had to be put out of work due to stress, so you have my sympathies.

Take this time to be good to yourself. Do what makes you feel good, even if it costs money. You need activity that is life-affirming so you can heal. Then and only then should you figure out what to do about work and your stress levels there.

Wishing you the very best.

Thanks I've got a note from GP that says I might be fit to work but I know I'm not. Therefore I have to go back next week and probably go off sick again

Sounds like it's time for you to look for another job if you haven't started already - which I know can be tough when you are feeling so badly. Your current bosses have made it clear by not changing things that they aren't going to. You hate the job. Life is too short - you've been dealing w/this for just shy of a year. Take care of yourself.
