Been a RN for 10 years now in the ER/CCU area and have been interested in Informatics for a few years now. Recently moved to Atlanta and there isn't any schooling for it but have been aware of the online possibilities. Was wondering if anyone had any advice on online degrees in Informatics and what are the good ones to check out. I've looked in to the University of Illinois at Chicago, but don't know how good there program is? I do know I can do it online and it is a Master of Science in Health Informatics. Just want to chose a good program and not waste any more time. I don't have any contacts in this area for good advisement so here I am.

I was born and raised in Chicago. The U of I MS in Healthcare Informatics has a good reputation and I have colleagues who have attended and graduate from the school and this program.
I'd say take a look at other schools too and compare the focus of the program(s) and choose the program that has the focus and concentration in area(s0 you are interested in.
Good Luck
Thank you for your reply. Do you have any suggestions for other programs, online or not to check out?
Also wanted to ask if you have definately decided on a graduate level degree program and if you have investigated certification courses/programs as well?
Search this Forum using the "Search this section tool" Use search terms as "education" "degree" "Nursing Informatics Education", etc
University of Pheonix, U of Maryland, Duke, Loyola and Northwestern University (in Chicago), U of Colorado, Oregan and U of Washington all have informatics degree programs. There are a lot more out there - do an Internet Search or check out the education sections of AMIA and ANIA's webpages.
Good Luck!

I am one of the earliest graduate of dual program MS in Administrative Studies in Nursing and MS in Health Informatics in UIC. The Health Informatics is all on-line. It was very convenient for me who was working full-time in UIC Hospital that time. I highly recommend UIC's program.
Angela and didodeeRN thanks for the feedback I truly appreciate it.
