HCC Spring 2017 Nursing Program

Published

Anyone out there know if they are applying for the 2017 Nursing program for HCC (Hillsborough Community College)? I am! Just realized I want to do this so I'm taking A&P 1 and 2, microbiology, and sociology this summer. Apparently its called the crazy train! Anyone else doing something similar?

I wonder if having a degree increases the chances of being accepted ?

Unfortunately, for HCC, I don't believe it does. I have my Master's in Mental Health Counseling and my goal is to become a Psych NP. I'm sure it will benefit me when I apply to NP programs

It does not. Unfortunately. I have a Bachelor of Science and it won't affect my chances.

How many of you plan to work during the program? If you don't mind me asking, do any of you work in the hospital setting currently?

I do. Work full time. Three 12s a week and take classes. I work as an ER tech.

What hospital do you work at if you don't mind me asking?

No problem! Tampa General

I would highly recommend getting a tech job during school. Once you graduate and are studying for NCLEX, you get promoted to GN (Graduate Nurse). Then when you pass boards you get promoted to RN.

Plus the experience is invaluable. You already have so much hands on skills that nothing really phases you. I've worked in Med/Surg, Neuro and now EM. You can really tell the difference in the nurses who were techs beforehand vs the ones who were not.

What qualifications did you have to earn that position ?

I work at LRMC. I'm not a tech though. As I mentioned before, I have a Master's in Mental Health so I work on the psych unit and have gotten the opportunity to take the role of a tech here and there but it's not my job title.

I challenged the CNA exam and got licensed. It's super easy. TGH is the only hospital that hired me with no experience.

Specializes in CNA so far.

Wow congratulations Analgesic I am also a CNA been for 4 years now and it is super easy. I think it's to bad that we couldn't skip Nur1 since most of the clinical experience is based on nursing skills and patient care starting out. I want Tampa General to be my hospital of choice after graduation!
