HCC Spring 2017 Nursing Program

Published

Anyone out there know if they are applying for the 2017 Nursing program for HCC (Hillsborough Community College)? I am! Just realized I want to do this so I'm taking A&P 1 and 2, microbiology, and sociology this summer. Apparently its called the crazy train! Anyone else doing something similar?

Link for the Facebook page ?

I don't think i can post a direct link (they will remove it) but put this in the facebook search bar and it should come up: HCCNursingSpring'17

Here is the direct link in case they don't remove it, lol.

Hey all,

Wanted to make sure that y'all know BLS (basic life support) for Healthcare Providers is the CPR course we are supposed to have for the program. (it is not specified adult or pediatric, but will address both in the course). They prefer the course to be an AHA (American Heart Association) course. This course is needed for the program but not for admissions, so it may be best to wait until admitted to the program.

Also wanted to update on my webadvisor / my documents page: ALL of my documents have been marked RECEIVED. No longer having any documents as "Under Review". Was wondering if anyone else had similar updates on their documents page?

Anyone else with a bachelors take MCB3020? Higher level micro? Just found out this might not be ok...

I also took a higher Micro than what's required (MCB 2010) for my Bachelors. I was told via email prior to application deadline that although my micro is higher than what is offered at HCC it will be counted towards the completion of the prerequisite requirement... It doesn't show as a transferred credit in my academic evaluation, but I was told that by a health science admissions counselor. Also when I went in to see an advisor at the Dale Mabry Campus, I was told that my micro would be fine.

May I ask who told you it may not be ok?

I was just concerned because it doesn't show as a completed requirement on my Webadvisor. I also took calculus and pre calculus which was transferred over, but not listed in the math as a completed requirement even though it says college algebra or higher.

I emailed the health science admissions counselor about the Micro. She said they usually don't accept 3000 level classes, but it might be under consideration by the health science committee. Essentially a "maybe".

I see, well fingers crossed that your micro and pre-calc count!! Did you have to take another micro to get to the 3000 level??

Wait so you took MCB 2010? Mine is MCB 3020. Yours is still 2000 level then which would be fine. So it doesn't count as a transferred requirement under your transcript?

And no. It was just what was required for my degree. I wasn't allowed to take MCB 2000. I had already taken organic and biochemistry so I was opted out of the general micro. It was never a concern but I must have been reading the USF's ABSN which says ANY micro class will count. When I looked at my academic evaluation and didn't see the micro class I was like "wait what?". Thank you!! Fingers are hard crossed. I work as a ER tech and I wanted to take the ADN route bc my hospital will pay for nursing school.

That's rough. And yeah, while mine is a 2000 level class it is still high than the MCB given at HCC so it doesn't transfer automatically in the system. Upon review from health science admission it will count as the pre-req for admission & if admitted to the program they would change it manually to be a transfer equivalent.

That gives me hope then! So when you look at progress towards degree requirements, your micro says "not complete"?

That's right!

haha ok fingers crossed!!
