Hi there,

I am a new member on allnurses.com and need some advice about getting my foot in the door somewhere! I am desperately seeking help as a new grad RN in Hawaii. I am originally from Cali and got my BSN in May from the mainland, got my license just last week but in Hawaii and I am permanently moving to Oahu as soon as I find a job there. I have don't know anyone that could help me out, so I wanted to get some advice from this forum.

I applied online for various RN positions at Kaiser and Hawaii Pacific Health, but none of them were new grad positions, so I haven't heard back from anyone in 2 weeks now. Do you think that I should just go out to Hawaii and another type of position just so I can get my foot in the door? How long does it take NOWADAYS for hospitals in Hawaii to hire you even for a non-nurse position such as a Ward Clerk and what is the hiring process like? I applied at Hawaii Pacific Health and Kaiser online, but no word yet except from HPH saying that they are looking for at least a year experience for their RN positions. I really want to work at HPH or Kaiser. I also applied at Kaiser in Hawaii, but no word from them yet. I really need to find a job in Hawaii asap. I am suppose to move there soon but I don't want to move without a job. Please post any advice. I would REALLY appreciate it! :)

Thanks a million!!!!!!

Aloha:

Are you wanting to move to Hawaii in general, or specifically to Oahu? Would you consider moving to an outer island?

Konacactus- I am willing to move anywhere in Hawaii for an RN position in a hospital, but if I move to an outer island I would not want to do it to work in a long-term care facility or home care environment. I really want to get my foot in the door at a hospital so I can use my RN license and skills as much as possible and as soon as possible. Why? Do you think I'd have a better chance finding an RN position on an outer island and NOT on Oahu?

Check out the website for Kona Community Hospital. They're on the Big Island, the southern most island, yes, the one with the active volcano! It's a relatively small facility, but they do have two openings for graduate nurses and offer a good training/orientation program. The openings are for the Long Term care floor and for the Med/Surg floor. Good luck!

Thanks Konacactus!!! I will check it out right now. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I am okay with moving anywhere in Hawaii (outer islands as well), but Oahu was my top choice just because I have a friend who has a place for me to rent a room for really cheap until I find a stable full-time RN position. I'll try other islands out of desperation, it's just that I don't know anyone from the outer islands, so I'm going to be all alone on getting any kind of assistance moving to another island. I'm so lost because I'm orginally from Cali. Thanks Konacactus for your advice. Anyone else have some advice for me? I can use all the advice I can get! :uhoh3:
