My husband and I just got to Oahu last Friday (his new duty station is MCBH in Kaneohe) and I've been applying to hospitals all over the island in hopes of getting something in acute care like my old job on the mainland before we relocated. I've been considering about applying to Altres Medical and just doing some travel nursing and picking up shifts here and there at several hospitals. Does anybody have any helpful advice about them or about travel nursing in particular (this will be my first experience working with an agency)? Mahalo!

I say yay. I signed up with them as a CNA to work their flu shot clinics in the public schools. Pay is great and they're so flexible with hours. If they can get you into a hospital, you can likely get a permanent position after you are done with your temp assignment. Sorry I'm replying so late... hopefully you've already found something :)

Did you end up going with them? I am in almost the exact same situation you are in. I am about to apply with an agency as well. Would love to hear about your experience with them or another agency.

Altres was great to me as well! I worked the flu clinics last fall as a new grad RN who had just moved here as well. The clinics were a lot of fun and very flexible. I found a permanent position soon after so I have not taken any other per diem work with them. I'm about to start some contract work with nurse finders though, so I would say look into them as well. I've been putting in applications in acute care positions for the past year with no luck, but that's with little background experience. Good luck :)

also check out Kahu Malama Nurses http://www.kahumalama.com you can also look up what positions they're looking for on careerbuilder.com. they recently posted several RN positions and they sometimes have assignments on the neighbor island. I work for them as an NA and hopefully soon as an RN at shot clinics...

a huge nay

this agency is definitely not pro nurses they were a huge disappointment ,

pay is low !

:jester: this agency is a real joke

Moved to Oahu a month ago, still no job yet. I have 8 years experience on acute tele floor, I have been applying for at least 2-3 positions a day and still have no job. I'm going in for an interview in am with Altres. I've read 1 nay comment thus far, I'm just hoping to start working and get my foot in the door. Any advice

2 large hospitals closed putting a lot of nurses out of work. It may be difficult to get a position
