I am planning to go to a job fair next week, held by a national company with an office in the Franklin/Brentwood area of Middle Tennessee. The company is HMC. Apparently, they hire RNs to do telephonic health counseling and coaching to patients all over the country. They have a very nice website, and what sounds like a great list of benefits. However, they seem to advertise for the same positions frequently, which makes me wonder if they have a high turnover. I would love to hear from anyone who has ever worked for HMC, or knows anything about the working conditions there. What is the pay scale like? How is the work? Do you/did you enjoy working there? Was it boring? Pros and Cons? Any information you can give me will be appreciated!

I am also planning to attend the fair. I work with someone who also works here. She seems to really enjoy it. She said the pay is comperable to hospitals, but I don't know about that. I'm looking for something part time, hopefully between normal daytime hours. But, from what she said, most of their shifts are 10hrs and can end at 9pm. But, I figure I'll go and check it out anyway.
Hi schatzie RN,
Thanks for the reply! It's good to hear that someone who works there likes it, and the the pay is comparable (we hope) to a hospital.
From what I saw on their website, they have 8-hour and 10-hours shifts. I don't know if they have part-time work or not.
I hope we will both find what we need today at the job fair. At least they will have refreshments and massages!:nuke:

Hi all. I wanted to do a follow-up to see if you got hired at HMC and how are things going there. I have heard both positive and negative about the working environment so I hope you respond.

I worked there. HMC is part of a huge network with opportunities to tansfer to several other cities if that's what you end up needing...Great people in Franklin office, made some good friends. Location of office is in good area of Cool Springs as far as places to eat and shop. The office building is new and attractive.
Your job as an RN case manager is one of simply numbers, and your happiness boils down to which supervisor and dept manager you get assigned to--most are really great at their jobs, some have better personalities than others, as with any job. Some are located in Richmond, VA, the sister site. Some nurses love this change of work environment, but others hate it. You sit in large rooms filled with small cubicles and make phone calls to clients. Your performance is based on numbers--how many calls you make or receive, how many clients sign up for the program, how many followed the program, outcomes, call time lengths, etc. Stats are reviewed weekly and monthly for individuals and teams. You speak to clients with a set script. You are encouraged to make clients feel a personal relatioship with you, their personal nurse, but you are given boundaries of time and content, so you are pressured to make each call as short as possible so you can get to the next client. Break times are strictly enforced. Have to be comfortable using high tech phone and computer systems, even for clocking in and out. Payroll is submitted online. Your phone & computer usage is live online for manangement to virtually view--live or afterwards. Everything is recorded, even personal calls. Strict call out, time off policies. Weekend work is expected. Overtime available depending on dept. Bonuses are great, given in March of every year. Before I left, they were promising that they had begun hiring nurses to work from their homes, but don't know if it is in full force yet.
Good luck!

Hi everyone,
I wanted to tell your that HMC is not a good place to work at. I use to work at the Virginia one and this place is always advertising every week and every month because they can not keep staff. In 5 months 32 nurses either quit, got fired, or suspended. The benefits are excellent but the hours suck. The job is very boring and they treated the nurse like collectors. Everything is very scripted and you can not use your nursing judgment you have to read whats off the the screen. A red flag should go up for any nurse who is looking to come to HMC when you always see them advertising for their company. HMC have a very high turnover rate. So I just want to warn nurse before they apply that this is not good place to go.
