It depends on the school you would be admitted in. Some institutions which accept second coursers evaluate the applicant's curriculum and determine which could be credited. If you are lucky, you would get to finish BSN within 3 years. Other schools, on the other hand, are more lenient (i.e., shorter). But i personally would not recommend the latter. More likely, you'd be shortchanged with the clinical (and classroom) experiences in the more lenient school. Oh, and right, there are some schools who would have you start all over again.

i have a bachelor of arts in mass communications from the united states. i'm planning to go to the philippines with my parents (iloilo), i want to pursue nursing there in iloilo. will they make me start over again as a freshman? or will my credits transfer? here in the u.s. they have you complete pre-requisite classes then you go to school for 2yrs or less...

you need to have your credentials be evaluated by ched, however, like rep said, you may need to start all over again. if you are not a filipino citizen, you need to have a student visa to study there. i doubt you can get it in 2 years..in average, second coursers can finish their bsn in 3 years..why not apply for adn instead? there are a lot of school here in the us that offers adn ( associate degree in nursing), which you can complete in less than 2 or 3 years. another problem too when you go there, you need to study twice as hard for your licensure exam when you get back here...then you are still considered as a foreign grad.just my opinion.

out of the five (6) established nursing schools in iloilo city, four (4) of them have special programs for "second coursers."

these four (4) schools are the following:

(1) central philippine university (cpu) in jaro district;

(2) university of iloilo (ui) in city proper area;

(3) university of san agustin (usa) in city proper area; and

(4) iloilo doctors' college (idc) in molo district.

these schools would usually evaluate your transcipt of records first and determine which general subjects from your previous course/degree should be credited.

some of these schools require entrance exams as one of their admission requirements.

i'm a mass communications graduate also from the west visayas state university. i didn't encounter any problem when i was applying to these schools. a total of 70 units from my previous course were credited.

Please be aware that the Philippine government is in the process of trying to close down many of these so-called second courser programs at this time, and they are all getting a year added if they will be permitted to remain open.
