Has anyone taken 3 sciences at the same time?

Published

Sooo I'm going to be a freshman in college this fall and i'm trying to pick out my classes. I was going to take English 1, College Algebra, Chem1 and A&P 1 (both with labs) and a mandatory freshman class which is mostly just like a study hall for a total of 17 credit hours. Would it be wise if I took Micro, Chem 1 and A&P 1 with labs in one semester instead? I won't be working or anything but I do have to commute on a train for about 30minutes which I think I can use as study time.

Tell me what you guys think or about your past experiences!

I wouldn't just because you probably need A's or B's (not B- though) in all those classes and if you are a freshman nursing school hopeful, then you should leave the micro for another semester. Chem and API are gonna be hard enough. Plus if you did that would be like 21cr! What school are you going to? Do you have AP credit for Biology?

No if i only took 3 sciences it would be twelve credits. I have a bunch of AP credits but the nursing school im applying doesn't accept them. :( I'm going to Georgia State University.

Yes but you are already planning on taking 17 credits with the Eng, Alg, API, ChemI, and study hall right? Adding micro would make that 21 unless you are planning on postponing some of your other classes? I mentioned AP credit for biology because most of the time, biology is a pre-req for A&PI and Micro. You should check your school catalog because you might not even be able to take those other sciences until you take bio.

My advice would be to take Eng, Alg, Bio(if needed), Chem, and the required study hall. Otherwise you might be setting yourself up for disaster. But you know what you can handle, just make sure you make an informed decision.

I was planning on postponiong Eng1, Alg and study hall for next semester and just take those 3 sciences. There's no pre-reqs for any of the sciences though. Do you think the Eng, Alg, chem and A&P is doable then? I thought it would be easier to just take sciences so I have no other classes to worry about.

No three sciences would probably be a killer especially since you're just starting. Even taking AP classes doesn't really prepare you for the amount and type of studying that you have to do in college level science classes. Its totally different when you're in a class with 400 people in it and no time to ask the teacher questions. I think the Eng, Alg, chem and AP will be good to start with so that you can get used to the workload then you should be able to gauge what you can and cannot handle.

okay thanks for the advice :)

I think if u are ready for it u could do it.. In nursing school you are going to have several very hard and time consuming classes at once my as well get used to it.

I think that it is doable. Students have done these classes before you and they did fine and there will be students after you to take on that kind of load. As long as you have the focus and determenation and you are serious about school you will be just fine;).

Just bc that type of load might not be good for some people, doesnt mean that you cant do it.

Good luck!

I wouldn't take Micro before I have Chemistry under my belt. I'm sure you could do it, but it would be extremely difficult and your grades are SO important if you want to get into the nursing program. If it were me I would hold off on the Micro.
