Hi all! I’m just curious and wondering if anyone has withdrawn/failed/voluntarily left an ABSN program and enrolled in an ADN program?
I’m in the NYC area and nursing is my 2nd career. I’m in my 2nd semester of an ABSN program and am so disheartened/disgusted by this program I’m tempted to call it quits. I passed the first semester with a 3.6 with a lot of hard work and dedication. However, I’m starting to think that perhaps an accelerated program is not suited to my style of learning and I should look at my other options.
My biggest complaint about this program is an unwillingness among my professors this semester to actually teach or offer guidance. They simply read off the slides the textbook company provided and advise to “read the book.” With an accelerated program, reading the assigned material (times 4 classes) equates to about 600-1000 pages per week. Not really doable. Last semester, my Professors gave us all the needed material in lecture and used the book to supplement as needed so it was much more doable. I literally spend 12-14 hours a day studying Friday-Sunday and still don’t feel as though I have enough time to review everything. A few of my classmates don’t share my concerns so perhaps it’s just me. I think this program is better suited to those who have brilliant memories, are super good at science and can absorb huge chunks of info in a short period of time. DEFINITELY not me. I am struggling hardcore in pathophysiology and failed the first exam. My professor is legitimately a nightmare and the school has offered no resources. And because of the demanding nature of an ABSN program, I have very limited time to dedicate solely to this class. I DO believe I could really succeed in a nursing program, just perhaps not this environment.
Any thoughts? If I withdraw and enroll in the program at my local CC, I’d only be taking 2 classes a semester till I finish. At least then my workload will be a lot less and I can better manage my time and prepare. Anyone been in my boat?
