Has anyone grown to love nursing

That didn't always dream of being a nurse. I'm considering going into nursing, but I have to admit I don't have a "passion" to be a nurse. I've always wanted to go into the healthcare field, but I know a lot of people say it's not worth it if you don't absolutely love being one. I do like helping people, and I definitely need the financial stability as a single parent. I'm just wondering if that's enough.

I started nursing school many years ago not with any particular idea that I was fired up about nursing, but because I needed a marketable job skill and nursing school was one of the least expensive of my available options. I figured that, even if I ended up not liking it, I would make enough money to be able to put myself through school for something else. I got "hooked" in nursing school, and 30 years later, am still going strong. :)

I do. I think it is fascinating, never boring, and there is no end to what you can learn. Frustrating, sometimes, but so is my family and I would not trade them for another family!

This is what I'm hoping will happen to me. I love babies and actually wanted to be a pediatrician growing up. I think the next best thing is a pediatric nurse. I gave up that dream 10 years ago after I graduated high school though so I'm hoping that part of me that wanted to help babies as a kid will resurface.

Nursing first clicked for me after I gave my first injection. It finally became a passion when I moved to the ER and started to initiate IV access on a regular basis. I'm a sucker for blood and needles! That's when I grew to love nursing!!

I have really loved nursing when on full time staff. As agency nurse, I still love the patient/nursing aspect

but the politics personalities of other nurses have made it little bitter. So I would say//I love nursing

and look forward to compassion common respect helpfulness among nursing staff to make a come back

I always watched those surgery shows on the Discovery Health channel & thought about getting into the medical field, but never once gave a thought to nursing. Until my brother when to school for it & told me I should go. I always followed in his footsteps, so I did.

The first semester or so, I didn't like it. Wasn't interested at all. Hated touching people. But once we got into "real" material (as opposed to fundamentals) and different clinical, I really enjoyed it.

I just graduated & started my first job as a RN yesterday. I won't lie & say its "my calling in life", but I do really like it, like the idea I'm making a difference in someone's life, and I have so many different options of specialties I can work in eventually (once I get experience)... Plus it pays amazingly well compared to the fast food I've been doing for the last 10+ years!

Yes! I started as a CNA, hated it, went to nursing school for a myriad of reasons, started out, and grew to love it.

I started out as a biology major with the intention to go to med school. I got quite sick in school and had a horrible semester. I had to move home with my parents. I had to stay in school to keep my insurance through my parents. I got into a nursing school near home and loved it. I loved getting right into patient care, I loved the whole human approach, and my professors had so many cool, fascinating stories. 4 years later I found myself graduating nursing school and never thinking about my biology program again. I truly like my job most days.

I did it for the financial aspect, and I will tell you this...i'm miserable at my job and as a nurse. I hate it, but chose as you wish. Don't not chose it based on what im telling you because some people do actually enjoy their job, im just not one of them. Perhaps you should try being a CNA in a hospital or nursing home first.

I have said that I wanted to be nurse when I grow up since I was about 5 years old. Here I am after 2 years of acute care experience wishing I went to school for something else! lol ...I hope I grow to love it.. it sure would make like life easier. One thing I do like is that I have other options I just wish it wasn't so hard to break into a new field.
