Hi-
I am seeking input from Harvard Vanguard nurses regarding how smoothly the unionizing process went and if the working conditions improved after unionizing. One of the other group practices under the Atrius umbrella is gradually shifting many of the nursing duties to unlicensed assistive personnel (medical assistants) and I'm wondering if unionizing will slow or stop this process.
Any advice or input about the MNA would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
E

I have worked for HVMA as a RN since 2007. The union has been in place since before I started. Medical Assistants in our facility do not perform nursing duties. I think we have strong nursing leadership and a supportive work environment. The current contract is up in 4/2011.H.ope this answers some of your questions

I think Harvard Vanguard also owns Saint Vincents. The LPNs (which sadly have been relegated to the PCA role and are dwindling) and other support staff, Pharmacy, Respiratory, other techs. Tried to unionize at that facility. I can't recall if they were successful or not in unionizing.
The MNA supports the RNs at Saint Vincents.
