Hi, I've been accepted to Gwynedd Mercy University's Nursing program for the Fall of 2017. As well I am a transfer student from the Community College of Philadelphia. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been accepted to Gwynedd Mercy's BSN program. I also wanted to know if there are former students from GMercyU BSN program if you could tell me about your experience. I am super excited about attending in the Fall and just would like more information about what to expect.

I'm currently in the BSN program at gwynedd and I graduate in the spring of 2019. I was also a transfer student and they took a lot of my credits which was cool. The program is (ok). I don't understand why they make you take 2 chemistries...the classes are huge so not a lot of one on one attention...everything is rushed through so you have to be able to keep up and definitely learn things on your own...study as hard as you can because the material in class usually don't match the test...besides all of that it's a really good school, I'm sure you will do well if you're passionate about being a nurse.

Thanks so much for you're reply I really appreciate it. I also wanted to know about clinicals. Do they start as soon as you enter the program? Also did you stay on campus or commute? I am planning to stay on campus only because I do not have a car to go back and forth.

No problem! You start clinicals once you begin fundamentals of nursing NUR209. It's just for one weekend. Then after that semester you have a two clinicals every week for NUR 307/316 or 317. Depends on what you are transferring into Gwynedd, to really be able to tell you where you will start. I heard for the Fall 2017 semester you will start with NUR208 and NUR212, if that's the case be prepared to study your butt off because NUR212 is very complex but not too hard to pass. They are also very strict on the way they grade. They do not curve grades by any means and you can fail a class by a half point and they will have you repeat it.

For your textbooks were you able to get them off of Amazon for a cheaper price? I'm sorry I have so many questions to ask lol. When I went to the accepted students day over the weekend I did not really get a chance to speak to anyone from the nursing program. I feel like you are way more helpful then they were.

Lol! Well I have no problem answering your questions :) I bought all of my books off of Amazon. The bookstore is way too expensive and some of the books we didn't use. For NUR 208 you don't need to buy the book. For NUR 209 I still haven't opened the fundamentals of nursing book, I use the powerpoint lectures and the PrepU. I could even sell you some books at the end of the semester for really cheap if you learn better that way. The only bonus about buying books from the bookstore is that they bundle everything together for you. But if you're willing to look on Amazon, you will be fine trust me.

Omg Thanks. That would help out a lot! I will definitely look on amazon as well. I also wanted to know are the Professors willing to help if you happened to be struggling with a class or two? I know that sometimes some Professor are not that helpful and leave you to figure out everything on your own.

They will help you in lab if they aren't busy discussing their personal plans amongst each other. I recommend going to open labs and studing the powerpoints as much as you can. The lectures are really boring and a waste of time because they read off the powerpoint instead of teaching.

Okay that's kind of what I do now in my chemistry class. Is there anything you suggest I should do during the summer before starting the program? Right now I am trying to find hospitals to volunteer. Also I plan on going over some things from my previous A&P classes to prepare. Is there anything else or something that you did before you started?

Okay good, I think you're good. Basic anatomy of the heart and the body is all you need to know for right now. They use medical terms so it's good to brush up on them. You can text me if you have any other questions, and I know a few jobs that hire student nurses. Do you have any other healthcare experience?
