nln update:[color=#495eba]vol. viii, issue no. 2, january 31, 2005
a biweekly publication of the national league for nursing
at those moments when i have the opportunity to meet and converse with our members, i am so often awed by their dedication to the important work they do. they never forget that they have the responsibility and privilege of educating future generations of nurses. it also becomes quite clear that nln members love their work and hope to encourage younger nurses to pursue careers in nursing education.
unfortunately, as i am sure you are all aware, we are in the midst of a serious shortage of nurse educators. developing and implementing effective strategies to recruit new educators are important functions for the nln. indeed, our task group on recruitment and retention of nurse educators, part of the nurse educator workforce development advisory council, is working hard in this area on several specific tasks.
one discussion by members of the task group led to the realization that we can all help if we just spread the word and articulate for others what it is that is so special about teaching nurses. [color=#495eba]will you share some of your ideas? the group is inviting seasoned faculty to write about "great moments in teaching," brief stories of 150 to 200 words. some of the stories you write will be featured on the nln website www.nln.org under "careers." in fact, a few stories are already posted....
by the way, when you visit "careers," click on "a career as a nurse educator" and see the top 10 reasons to become a nurse educator. let the world know how true they are!
