Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I'm not a fan of papers..but sure beats cramming for exams. Follow the Rubrik, and you should be fine.

This is a dilemma I face as editor/proofer as well, how do you think this is going to go over after all is said & done? I ask because one time I had a team member say, "oh and don't touch my stuff, I wrote it, it's original, I want my pictures as they are (it was a powerpoint), and if you change it then it's not my work, it's yours". She didn't say exactly that (forgive the quotes), but that is basically what she was saying and forbid me to edit anything other than APA things. And she typed that right in the forum for the prof to read, so I left it all alone. What do we do when a piece is just bad and doesn't fit or flow but that person says "hands off"??

Oh goodness, thank God none of them were like that! We would have failed for sure :p One girl didn't even cite her stuff correctly so it showed up all over TII. I had to go back through and figure out what to cite. It's just a pain because we are ALL busy. Not like I have extra time to do your work as well as my work!

I just had to do that on Sunday. First they handed everything in later than we agreed, and then it was all crap. I had worked the night before, and then had to stay up for a bunch of hours to fix all their crap. Luckily I managed to get an A on the project.

Ours was always handed in later as well. I set the days according to my work schedule, so I could work on it on my days off. Obviously no one paid attention to the dates!

Hi everyone, so like many after reading this thread and some others I decided to go with GCU :) I started 3/31/14 and so far so good. I'm in my 2nd week of my 2nd class. This whole wrting papers is something that I'm slowly getting used to. I've never been much of a writer but have done pretty decent so far. It scares me reading how there are some instructors that are real sticklers though :/ I look for to getting to know you all and CONGRATS to all those that just recently finished up, I can't wait to be in your shoes!!!

I can't imagine an instructor not wanting APA format, what paper is this, the IOM report? If so, look at the rubric under Format, it says "Paper Format (1- inch margins; 12-point-font; double-spaced; Times New Roman, Arial, or Courier)" -- that's APA.

And under Research Citations (rubric) it says you should use a template and "In-text citations and a reference page are complete. The documentation of cited sources is free of error." If there's no right or wrong (not using APA), what does "free of error" mean? Who's to say anything's an "error" if there's no guideline? :roflmao: LOL This is how I make myself crazy.

My two cents? Just do it APA. The rubric clearly is leaning that direction, and you'll get the practice.

I am going to do the APA format because in my own opinion, I don't know how to do a paper without it. Sad but true. and yes, its the IOM report. I am having a hard time reading the material and trying to come up with a thesis statement. Once I have that, i can roll with the paper.. I have a question. How do you or do you even cite others work? I mean in this IOM report while reading the author is citing others throughout, so if I was to use that, do I cite the author of the report or the source that the author cited? I am sorry if this is confusing.

I get what you're asking, you're referring to citing secondary sources. In your example, the secondary source is the IOM report (it's secondary because they - the IOM - are citing the primary/original source of the information). There are rules for this, you can Google "citing secondary sources APA" and tons of stuff will come up. It's pretty complex, and although I know there are APA rules on it (and APA tells you you really should find the original), honestly I've rarely done it. I've always just cited the secondary source and paraphrased (avoid the quotes because then you pretty much have to track down that primary/original and reference that too). If you're truly concerned about it I'd ask your instructor in the Individual Forum if s/he requires the primary or if it's sufficient to cite/reference the secondary source that you are actually reading (the IOM).

HOWEVER, now that I think about it, I remember hunting down some of those sources by Aiken, et al., and reading their articles because they had great stuff in them and that gave me another Reference to add to my list (because you need at least 3). So, I guess I did go to the primary on occasion.

Has anyone had problems logging on today? I have been trying to log on, but it says that I am not currently enrolled in a class. My past, current, and upcoming classes are not visable. It says, "You currently do not have any courses scheduled at this time. If this is in error, please contact your Academic Counselor at your earliest convenience. Thank you." I am so worried that I got kicked out of my class. I only have 1 assignment left to turn in. Then I still have Capstone to do. My teacher was already assigned for that too. I am kinda freaking out.

Im taking a break...but yes..get the same message
