Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I can't remember who..maybe PrismRN..someone said they get all their work done during the week and then have the weekends off.

Oh no, no, if Prism said that, I lied. I wish that was my life, but sadly it isn't! What I think I remember saying is that I get my DQ's done in advance (try to do them on weekends - best case scenario is to get them ALL done the weekend before the class even starts once I have access to the syllabus). I like to do DQs in advance so I can copy/paste during the week with no thought, and spend the week commenting here & there on other ppl's DQ's for my participation, and then the weekends are when I hunker down and get serious about the papers. Like here it is, Friday evening, all my week's stuff is long done (DQs, replies), and tonight I will crack open PERRLA and that will be my life until Sunday. I cannot whip out a paper, never have, never will (), and sometimes I've cut it way too close by starting a paper Friday night. Let me tell you, there's no feeling in the world like clicking that TII button at 2340 on a Sunday and your score comes back >20% -- that's panic mode man, trying to tweak things, rerun it thru TII (several times sometimes), and then submit the assignment before 2359... That is a lesson I apparently haven't learned yet.

HERE HERE I second that! I want to ask my advisor that very question, but haven't mustered up the gumption to do it yet. It is SOOO frustrating when I am in a class that I KNOW for a fact that others have taken (and the syllabus is the exact, BTW), but somehow the instructor throws in little tweaks and extras that make the assignment completely unrecognizable to the one that the previous class had to do. I went through this last week, the assignment description and the rubric seemed extremely clear and straight-forward to me, but no, the instructor had her own "take" on what it meant and had us all scrambling with questions in the QFI Forum asking for clarification over and over and over. Oh, and here's a tip: They don't like it when you copy/paste the assignment into a QFI and out them in front of everybody by saying (in effect) "the assignment says this, but you say this, which is it because that's not what the assignment says". LOL. yeah, don't do that. :bag:

I understand, I have not had to do that yet. I just can't believe this Patho class teacher, already the class is intimidating in the amount of work there is to do (and I really like this subject it's really interesting to me) but she has to tell us that she is very picky about APA for everything including replies to others and what I find strange is that there is only 1 DQ per week due Fridays but it's a killer question (multiple questions in one) that she will scrutinize with a magnifying glass and it's 20 points. There are case studies for assignments and most of this stuff is really complicated. I know I sound like I'm whining... (sorry) but jeeees this is making me mad . I have gone through every thing and downloaded everything, copied every thing and it's VERY busy!

Also, how are students supposed to have enough time to answer the Friday DQ 3 days a week on 3 separate days with 2 replies per day? If people don't turn their stuff in until Friday?

Thanks for letting me vent:up:

I just had a thought: Wouldn't it be wonderful if the staff all had their bio's and class instructions (and weird little idiosyncrasies) posted out and you could read them all and YOU get to decide whose class you wanted to sign up for? Now that's an idea!

Yes it would be! That is why they don't tell who teaches what and if you try to look for it, it appears to be well hidden. For what it's worth I did look up my Patho instructor on rate my professor and it's negative stuff about her.

I understand what you mean. My patho teacher sucks too. On top of the DQ she is making us do CAT's. There is already more than enough to do in this class without her adding another DQ that is the length of the normal DQ. The CAT is due Wednesday for me. She seems pretty picky about APA too. Not gonna lie, I suck at APA. I just use word and have that do my APA formatting for me. I typically like this subject as well, but I have a feeling I won't be liking it with her. This teacher may ruin my 4.0 GPA.....

Well, I don't know if there is a better facilitator or not but I guess on Monday I'm calling and asking before I do anything in there. I just hope my school buddy is around on Monday and doesn't have to go to work because we're trying to go through this program together and she's on call.

For some reason I thought you had already taken Patho. Mine starts on Monday, did yours already start? Or would you try to get into a different class?

Tokmom,

No issues, I just hadn't received login info, AA stated I should receive same on Monday. However he did provide me with a username and password which will allow me to kick the tires and take the Loud Cloud website for a test drive over the weekend. :nailbiting: haha

Mine already started. Just finishing week 1

Sometimes, one can see the new class by the Friday before the actual start date....Nice to be abale to get the DQ questions out of the way! Just ensure you use References and us the APA format. Soem profs don't care....but some do

My current Prof in research, actually takes marks off if your reference format is incorrect. She is the first 1 to do that!

That is an invaluable little class. It gives you an idea how to navigate LC, which in the beginning can look intimidating with all the tabs, but it's pretty straightforward. This class will teach you how to post, and submit to tii and the dropbox. :)

Just a hint, work on your dq a head of time and save on Word (like others have said), and then you can simply cut and paste and do a bit of format tweaking and then post. Saves you from doing it in LC. There are times that LC gets grumpy and may not save your work. Having it on Word saves you a lot of angst. That only happened to me once and I never posted that way again, lol

Ouch, Flames! I know the announcements for the capstone said the same thing. Those small errors are gonna cost ya :nailbiting:
