Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
About this time last year I was reading a post from Flames regarding GCU. I decided to give it a go, and today started my first day in Capstone. I wish I could've continued to post with you guys while taking this journey with GCU, because it would've made things a lot smoother and supportive. I have been completely submerged in school and finishing this program. It will be good to return to the land of the living just in time for the Christmas holiday.
:hpygrp: :ancong!: :anpom: :wine:
I need to restate. My daughter's do support from afar as you say. My Dad is on board.
But nothing, from co-workers. They look as me like I am from outer space and I don't plan to even tell them I have decided for sure to move forward. Everything I got except for one RN, in my dept was absolutely negative. Then we had the run down of why one shouldn't be an RN from the MA's.
I do know of two others who are in other depts, that have gone thru the program and have offered support. Which I appreciate. They are younger ppl but smart and I trust them.
So, this is for me. Whether it works or not, I will have tried.
My girls are excited for me, as after Christmas, it is cold and snowy here. It will be a good time to absorb myself in something substantial. I am only starting now because the scholarship is available now.
Felicity wants a bubble bath and mani/pedi before we start on the trail She is getting a bit full of herself!
Winterwhite,Thanks, you will be here before you know it. It goes really fast. I see that some of you double up on classes and take breaks. Looking back, maybe I should've done that. I kept plugging along one class at a time, and never thought about doubling up until it crossed my mind of how nice it would be to enjoy the holidays this year with no papers to write, no dreaded CLC, or DQs. So I doubled up in Leadership and Pathophys. It was crazy busy.
I am one that has been taking breaks, but....I am on the precipice of Christmas break and thinking about doubling. Yes one moment, no another...this next week will tell. If I do, I'll probably be on here ALL the time avoiding a ton of assignments, lol. :lol2:
tokmom,Can you give me your take on the Capstone overall? I was hoping that they would go easy on us considerating all we've done to get to this point. The instructor did say that it was intense for the first few weeks and then slacks off a bit, but the syllabus is frightening, and this class looks like A LOT of work and a repeat of research.
It is a very busy class and it's like research on steroids, lol. However, since you are in the first week, you have probably figured out the large paper is written in sections. Every week you add to it, until you have that big ol' paper. :) I think the most tedious part was the literature review, that seems to be done twice. One short and one longer version. You will also find yourself going through the large paper and having to cull repetitive information because some of the information will over lap from each paper.
A few tips I can offer:
As soon as you get a paper grade, fix mistakes and add it to the final capstone. Do this for each paper. Don't wait until you get them all back.
Keep the addendum's simple. I probably went overboard, but I had a power point, two surveys to check for baseline and post education, a flyer and an executive summary. I personally never felt the class slacked off, but again, I had a lot of extra pieces on top of the paper writing.
Is it doable? Yes it most certainly is. I finished a few days early and only had my DQ and responses to do for the rest of the week.
Will you work your hiney off? Yup, but keep your eye on that brass ring. The capstone is the cumulative project of Everything you have learned thus far. Don't let the syllabus scare you!!
And remember it's only 5 weeks and I hope you don't think I'm offering a Cheeto on Mt. Everest (this is for Prism's benefit, hehe).
Who do you have for your instructor? Mine was amazing..
PM if you have any questions, that you need answered privately. :)
Doubling up on classes wasn't the worst thing, but I had no idea of the amount of time I would spend on the pathophys DQs. Like I said earlier, I wish I would've checked in here months ago. I would've known about that, and my advisor never eluded to that when I requested to double up. This thread is awesome and informative, you guys are great. I would've loved to divert my brain when it was turning into mush instead of thinking about qualitative and quantitative, healing hospitals, and benchmark assessments mumbo jumbo.

Enough of this, missy! Don't shoot yourself in the foot before you even TRY!
Screw your co-workers. I personally think they are jealous. I heard it from others that were ADN and didn't see the need to further their education. I figure it's their loss. I learned a lot of theory that I put to daily use AND learned a lot about myself. Nuthin' wrong with that.

It's a great place to come if you don't want to do homework!
life has been so hectic since I moved. There is no way I could have done this while still in school. I am very thankful for the program. We are constantly learning new things as nurses. We need to continue to learn new things. Getting my BSN has granted me more options than I had with my ADN. Keep up all the hard work everyone. You will get there. This is a great place to vent and get advice.
